Wooo Whooo...it's time to start drag racing again!

Every year my son and I start our drag racing season the first weekend in march racing at The March Meet in Bakersfield. For those that have not been able to attend it's more than just another nostalgia event. It's more like a Rock Concert Happening for drag racers. Racers come from all over the country to race and enjoy the nice usually warm weather. We go to watch the racing, check out the swap meet, car show, cruise the pits and talk to some great racers, and yes also race our underdog 1960 VW against some of the best bracket racers in the nation. Our racing buddy last year won the Hot Rod class by beating 256 other cars for the trophy in his Karmen Ghia. He runs it with an old Hilborn mechanical fuel injection on alcohol and no cooling. Lets just say we have a good time with only 3 or 4 VW's racing 256 other cars in our "sold out" class.

I have worked hard over the winter to get my 32' highboy back together after it's new dark red paint job and will be towing up our teardrop trailer to camp out. We usually end up pitted at the top end of the track by the timing slip booth so if your in the area please stop by and say hi.

    Anyone else planning to attend?

If I had only one event that I could attend each year, it would be The March Meet.

John, good luck at the March Meet and the rest of the season. Sure wish I could be at Bakersfield with you but I'm in Yuma for the next couple of months then off to Baker, Ca. then Vegas in time for the Summitracing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip in Las Vegas.

Your right about the March Meet being a lot more than just drag racing, its one great event for sure.

If anyone hasn't seen some of the pics I shot there last year check them out, there's also some pics of that screamin' Karmen Ghia kickin' butt on everything in the other lane also some good shots of John's son puttin the front wheel in the air:

Jay sorry, I would if I could.

Larry M, shot some very nice photos of the Bakersfield 2009 March Meet. They are at the top of this page about 50% of the time when you open the home page. Our little light blue VW is on page 10, next to the Christman's dragster photo.

By the way Jay, thanks again for talking me out of using single stage on my roadster. The PPG BC/CC came out very nice. Now I just have to see how long the "California compliant" waterborne paint holds it color.
