    Pinks All Out Racing

I'll be running in the Pinks All Out Racing next month in Bakersfield. I'm just wondering if any of you guys know about how many runs I'd be making on Saturday. Friday is the Test 'n Tune but Saturday is the actual event.

    Thanks,

    Ron

That's really neat. I guess you'll be driving the 40 Chevy? Keep us posted as to what happens and when air time will be. We'll be cheering you on.

Thanks Don..I will keep you posted...it should be exciting.

Yes, I'm running my '40 Chevy...should be running somewhere around the low to mid 11's which will hopefully get me into the final 32 field.

With single elimination and anything over 32 cars to start you will have six runs to be the last one standing, or seven if you get an odd number at the end and one gets a bye. 32 or less you can drop one from the totals.

That's correct "in normal" NHRA type eliminations. But in Pinks All Out, after they come down to the final pair of cars from the 32, they run a "best out of three", or maybe "a best out of five" for the TV final drama.

It's best to have the most consistant car that will also be able to be "hot lapped", IMO.

I ran it in Denver last year.... I heard they have changed some things for the eliminations since then but we got 2 test runs before they picked the final field.

First test with the tree (pro tree) and the timers on, then second with arm drop and no time displayed.

I think Pinks All Out not only saved the original show "Pinks", but it has done a whole lot to stimulate new interest in drag racing for the average Joe. The original Pinks was a little hokey IMO, and that business of negotiating and the bickering really got old fast. But the concept of Pinks All Out is pretty cool and by the crowds they show coming to each event it seems popular everywhere.

I would love to find out when they are at one of the Florida tracks and go as a spectator. Sure hope you post lots of pictures and info when you do go. So, what are you going to do with the $ 8,000 tool box and the cash?????

    Don

All i can suggest is contacting your local tracks to see if Pinks is coming there. 3 years ago I found out they were in Las Vegas but when I called, it was too late. The following year I found out they were in Sonoma, Calif. at the Infineon Raceway. I called a year ahead of tiime and was 37th on the waiting list...I got down to 35 on the list by the time the race happened. Last year I called the local tracks and found out they'd be at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield and got right on it.

What will I do with the money and tool box if I win....probably use the tools to pull my blown motor out and use the money to put a new one together!!

    Hi Ron,

I guess I would have to say it was exciting... definitely an interesting experience. I had never seen the track (Bandimere) so packed... easily half again more people than at Mile High Nationals. Showed up Thursday I think around 3-4pm and the lot was already at capacity before they opened the gates.... got in and claimed a spot in the pits I think around 10pm. Definitely show up as early as possible.

Long story short I did a ton of work to the car to take it from it's nominal 11.9-12.0 down to 11.50's. Got one test run in Friday before we were rained out... 11.499 (skipped the 11.50's altogether ). But Saturday the car was running bad and inconsistently and I screwed up one of the launches. They ended up picking a 12.0 field which ironically I might have made had I not messed with the car at all. Found out later I had broken a valve spring, probably on that first 11.49 pass... fortunately didn't drop the valve.

So that part of it was frustrating but it was generally a fun time. A few things did leave a sour taste in my mouth related to the contract Speed TV and/or the show had with the track including outrageous prices for food and beverages ($9 beer ) more expensive than at the Nationals and they dressed up their own photographers as the usual track photographers and charged $50 for photos that are normally $12. Of course I had to have a picture of the car at Pinks but had a rather heated discussion with the photog jerks.

You will have fun but be prepared for your track to turn into a total zoo

Best of luck and let us know how it turns out!

    -Chris

P.S. They also had a lot of cool exhibition stuff like jet cars, wheel-standers and jet-pack guy... all great crowd pleasers and fun spectacles to watch

I just looked at your gallery and your Chevy coupe is sweet Might have an edge when it comes to picking the field.... let's hope there's 31 more cars running your time.

Well, that's IF a group of cars running the same ET group that you fall into is selected to actually run for the money.....If not, you get to pound on your car for two passes, then be a spectator.....

Neat concept other then that... If they'd get rid of Rich, I might even watch it once in awhile.... The little bit of interest the show actually holds for me is killed by him and the others who run the event.....
