Can't find my rule book. My belts are dated March 08. Can anyone tell me how long they will pass tech? Pressure plate is October 05, but the car should run high 10's when I get the new motor in and I'm told they won't worry about the date on the flywheel at that e.t. Thanks, Rad

Thanks for the input. John, I would love to make a July race. I'm in Fresno and planned to do all the ANRA races this year. But, inadequate oil pressure, and a damaged #2 main bearing caused me to do a complete tear down. But, it will come back to life with a new roller cam, 4-7 timing swap, and larger valves with extensive porting.
I have found a tune expert here in Fresno that has access to Whipple and their dyno. So, after we get the motor back together, in the car, and on the dyno, I'll try to get in some test and tune.
It's an all steel 55 Chevy, but Carl seems to think with the new build, we should see some high 10's at least.
If I don't make Famoso in July, I am still hopeful to be at the August ANRA meet.

Here's my take on the subject of going faster/quicker. Anybody that has ever raced will tell you it will NEVER be, FAST ENOUGH, OR QUICK ENOUGH! So my advice is to just build it "safe and sound" and go have fun.Quote:

Even in the 8.60, 9.60, and 10.60 index classes the close competition was just the same. So bring you stuff, make some passes and find a class that is close and have at it. As you start running faster, and more consistent just move up to a quicker class and it starts all over again. Think of Burt Munroe from the movie Worlds Fastest Indian............The Gods of Speed will require many parts donations, LOL.

I know what you mean by always wanting to go faster. Since this car was built as an old style gasser, I had hoped to get at least a 10.6. But it just didn't want to get out of the 12's. Realizing that I had made some mistakes with the original motor gave me the opportunity to do it better, since I had to outlay the cash on rebuild anyway. And we found out about the bearing just in time. It was on the verge of destruction!
10.6 would be nice, but even 11.6 would allow EGas, as well as the HotRod bracket. But we have already decided to leave the car as is because the return on speed for dollars with an all steel heavy chevy is minimal.
My buddy and I are considering a nostalgia F.E.D. We are finding examples on racing junk at reasonable prices for a roller. With a SBC (much cheaper than the big block stuff) you could expect mid 9's which would get us into the N.E.III class at ANRA. Much more bang for the buck!
If I were shopping for a F.E.D. roller, I'd want it to have a fresh chassis cert. A car that isn't certed could be a nightmare if you're not careful.Quote:

i to am looking to get rid of my nova for a FED as we speak
After another two months of additional delays, and broken commitments, I decided to take my heads back to the machine shop for port work and assembly. Since the block needed some more work, I just asked them to assemble it as well. Inside of one week, the block is done and most of the head work is finished as well. They will also long block it and set push rod geometry. I am sorry to miss the hands on experience, but at least I will get the motor in soon. I don't mind doing a stock 283 or VW motor. A 6500 RPM big block is something I'd rather not make a costly or dangerous mistake with.
So, hopefully, we will get it installed within a week or two. If I can get a dyno tune accomplished without much delay, I may be able to make the August ANRA meet at Famoso. If not, there are lots of test and tunes, as well as grudge races up at Sac Raceway. I'll just have to get a set of ET Streets so its street legal. Looks like we may be able to race this summer after all!
