11 second street rod?
So i was out mowing the yard last night when a guy i know stops over (this guys kinda an a$$) to show me a car he just bought from Michigan. The car is a 90 Mustang with a Pro-charger and a lot of go fast parts. I took it for a drive and i have to say whoever built it did a great job because it handels the power well and it pulls like mad. I might say it's somewhere around a mid 11 sec. car. We get back to my house when the sh#t talk starts, how he's never seen a car pull like that and nobody would beat him in a street race.
Well this guy knows how to get under my skin, just the fact he didn't have anything to do with the build and now he has a 11 sec. car. Okay with that said how can i beat him??? Ive never driven a street rod so i don't know if you can get them to hook or not. What do think, does anyone have a 10 or 11 second street rod ??

Takes a good car, street rod or whatever to run in the 11's or quicker.... It also takes a cage, drive shaft hoops, 5 point harness and a bunch of other safety equipment.
I had a purpose built 'glass 34 coupe that ran 9.90's... But it had a tube chassis, 12 point cage, 501 cubes, Neal Chance glide and converter, 4 link rear and all the rest of the goodies. Very few would actually call it a street rod, but more a drag car with a coupe body.
You can run 10's in a T.... but IMO it had better be a car that is built to run that fast, and not just a lot of horsepower and a set of slicks with a light car and no safety equipment....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Mustangs are big around here. I know two guys running prochargers. One runs high 9's and the other mid 10's at Cordova. It amazes me how the bottom end of a 302 can stand that kind of power but they do, for awhile at least.

Don't sweat that he has an 11 second car. One thing you will find out that is no matter what you have, someone always has something faster. 11's aren't all that fast any more, there are a lot of cars running around that run deep into the 9's.............all it takes is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Plus, he BOUGHT his car.
As for a street rod running in the 11's, sure.......here is one that runs low 10's.

I had a high school boy with a very nice 89 stang. He would gun the hell out of it every day that he passed by my house after school. He told my son Charlie that his car could beat my monte. I told charlie to just smile and tell him that I do not race children. Especially ones that did not know how to treat a car. It was less than 2 weeks that he tore the tranny out. When people are like this you just smile. Because when their car goes bad and sooner or later it will. They will not have a clue as to how much it is going to cost or how to fix it. I would not street race that guy that is bugging you. It is far too dangerous and expensive if you get caught.BARB

11's are not all that quick for a purpose built "street car".
There are street racers capable of mid - low 7's @ 200 mph on 10.5 slicks. .....they are only a little slower on drag radials.
If you have the money and follow a proven recipe for power and traction, it would be fairly easy to absolutely waste an 11 second car.Last edited by Flipper_1938; 05-14-2008 at 12:45 PM.

Build a VW and then tell him ANYTIME he's ready. No V-8 guy likes loosing to a aircooled VW Bug! There are many "ten second capable" VW"s driven on the street everyday.

You don't have to drag him on the streets or strip or go faster than 100 mph for that matter to have a feel for what he's got compared to your rail job. Get the T out and go out with the stang on a 4 lane road when traffic is minimal. Start from 20 or 30 mph stab it and cut it back at 80 to 100 mph and see how you do. Either way that should shut him up.
For about $5k in its entirety you could also Pro Charge the T. But without all the safety stuff like Dave said I would be nervous racing it.

I had a 29 hiboy last year, that had a 10.90 engine from a steel 56chevy--didnt take long to feel the power that it was capable of. I got rid of it and last I heard it was in LA. My underware are getting cleaner every wash!Last edited by bigdude; 05-14-2008 at 01:34 PM.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
