Sounds like you had fun. Do you have any pictures of the car?
Don
Sounds pretty healthy... and 1.73 aint a bad 60' especially if you were spinning the tires. Should be about 12.4 in a 1/4. How much weight are you hauling?

Full body 72 nova
sounds like a sweet nova! Im also building a 406 for my 1970 nova. Whats your setup? You should get some Caltrac bars if your runnin leaf springs. Thatll get your nova to hook! :)
Sounds like a salesman for Caltracs. I have no problem with Caltracs or any reasonable traction aid to help this thing go. I have a problem with throwing a product into somebody else's pocket book when the total result of where and how his set up failed or was successful. Why not back half the car and turn it intio a pro streeter? Not to ruffle feathers but why not wait to see what this budget builder in accomplishing first before laying down what's needed before we've seen more or actually stood at the side of the car while it was going through it's paces? HHHMMMM
maybe he was just trying to help? 1.73 your lucky, i was getting 2.0 60ft times and 12.60's :(
Wow, that was kinda harsh. Here's a guy with a similar car offering a suggestion to a fellow who stated "if I can get it to hook up." He even qualified it by adding "if you are runnin' leaf springs". I'm not a Caltracs salesman myself, but I do know they are the device of choice for many racers using leaf springs. And they are not very expensive. I think it was a good suggestion.
Demetrice, Good luck with your car!
Pat
Caltrac's work good for leaf spring cars, but there's any number of other variables that effect traction such as tire size & compound, slicks or tread, what bushings in the springs, etc.
Must have something right! 1.73 is a good 60' time for the first time out and just getting started with dialing the car in!!!!!
Gentlemen, "Offering" ANd instisting are two different things. It's bad enough that posters here ask questions and out of the blue some one says, "YOU NEED THIS!" Maybe I'm being harsh in this instance. Then again, as much track time as I personally spend, It's too forward. Let Askew fill us in on what he is experiencing with the car. It will probably take a weekend or two to give us more info. But to tell a guy he "Needs" something when you haven't seen the car or watched it run or helped build it....come on, offer Caltracs or a good traction attitude. Don't tell us that it's what he needs. I like it when everybody spends the other guys money with out knowing exactly what he has or is trying to do. It may not be a traction problem. Let's find out first.
I don't think anyone took it as insisting he get Catlrac's...... "you should" is hardly a mandate....
I'd also like to hear about and/or see what the car has now, but if it's nothing but stock leaf springs and shocks, a set of Caltrac bars or similar would certainly help... In any case, it would seem to be an accurate suggestion based on the amount of information given.
Just as a point of reference, my 3340 lb firebird pulls 1.70-1.75 60' with a dead hook (back half ladder bars) so I think demetrice is doing pretty good with 1.73.
BTW: I'm hoping to be more solidly in the 1.6's with my new converter but I'm just sayin' 1.73 is a good 60'....
Now he did imply he's not getting a good hook so there may be some room for improvement whether by shocks, caltracs, tires, tire pressure or any other kind of chassis tuning.... we don't even know what he's running for a diff?
As was mentioned before, more seat time yields more information and more information will illuminate what if anything needs dialed in...
two cents,
-Chris
It was just a suggestion for the caltracs. I never said "NEED" so take it easy nitro:D
I'm gone for a few days and it starts up again.:whacked:
