I saw that same pro mod Karmen Ghia up at Bandimere last weekend. Beautiful car, expensive paint you need to see up close to appreciate... I think he was having problems that day. I only saw one run, I think about 10.50 after half track shutoff.

that's one of the saddest, albeit interesting, things I have seen. you'd think for the amount of money it cost to get those little cars to do that they could have made a good looking car fast. :D

Great to see vw's built with appreciation. We always laughed at them in the 60's. But it would take me a while to go that fast with that wheelbase.Love it.

That is unreal!!! Anyone have any idea how they will hold up? Seems like that would put a tremendous amount of strain on a small engine, just wondering. Anyway that is awesome.

as with any hipo car... it requires maintenance and lots of it.
That Karmann Ghia will run 8's, I've seen it do it numerous times, and in his hometown of Grand Junction, CO, which has a higher elevation than Bandimere (precisely 1 mile, 5,280 feet, at the starting line)
I'm sure eric (either Eric in that race, Madson or Calabrese in the Red Sled Bug) would be happy to race you....:LOL:
FAYLUR, you've got a 10 second street Bug that is daily driven (if it isn't snowing) right in your town. Watch out for a black '67 Bug w/aluminum wheels, and a nasty ol' turbo and Holley 4 barrel sticking inside the luggage area behind the rear set... that car has fooled a LOT of people....
If you ever get to Kil-Kare Raceway, that's his favorite place to pound on V-8's and make a few bux....:toocool:
I grew up in Southern California. I remember a VW called the "Inch Pincher" that ran in the 12's and was very streetable. A company called EMPI made a lot of really great stuff for those little 4 cylinder bugs. I bought a '69 from Economotors in Riverside and put a lot of EMPI stuff on the car - power pulley, racing distributer, dual port heads, twin Webers and an extractor exhaust. I could pull the front wheels of the ground hitting second gear! It was a lot of fun...
Dam now that is sweet, very nice job. goes to show ya you don't have to have a shi?t load of HP to make em go fast. I have been a VW guy for years my first car was a 55 bug
Glenn, if you are from Tigard, find a place in Sheridan, OR, called Techtonics....the owner of the shop is named Darrell....Vittone... yes, the guy that DROVE that Inch Pincher, along with Dean Lowry (RIP), runs his own watercooled VW performance shop out of Sheridan.
BTW, his dad, founder of EMPI, Joe Vittone, turns 86 on Valentine's day, still going....
In the late 1960's I lived in Phoenix and my home track was Beeline Dragway an AHRA track just east of Phoenix. At the time, I was building a early Thames (Anglia) Panel truck to run in H, and I/gas class. The car was built around 300 inch Ford six cylinder with a industrial motor forged crank, C-6 trans, three Holly two barrels on a plenum manifold, Henry's narrowed 9" rear end, chromoly four bar front end on coil overs, etc. I had the car built to a roller status when I went out to the AHRA Winternationals and saw The Inch Pincher blow away all of the class records effectivly changing the index the class would have to run and ending my dream of racing in a class with a "easy index". The Inch Pincher was changed many times over the years, but my favorite was when they had a pasley vinyl top glued on it.
We did not give up, we joined them, and have been racing air cooled VW's ever since. We are not one of the fastest, but have gone 11.01 at Pomona to win a Wally in the quick 16 class.
My favorite photo was taken at Carlsbad with our car a full car lenght ahead "at launch" in a grudge race against that black 67 from Ohio that 26Todor was talking about. LOL

John, whenever I go out to my firend's house in Payson for fishing, I see the old timing tower for Beeline Dragway, I believe it's a gun club there now, or something of that nature, but the tower still stands.
I'd love to see that photo of Troy (or you) ahead of the "Cornpanzy" at C-bad, I would LOVE to torture him with that ROTFL !!
The T is coming along alowly, got all the steering stuff (MAN they are proud of those damned U-joints !!) sorted out, using the T wood rimmed wheel, and you'll never guess what steering column tube I'm using... here's a hint- it came from the factory with white paint, and you have one in a lite blue 1960 automobile that you own.... and exhaust stuff, need to get a few pipes bent, and get the body mounts squared away, then I think I can take it all back apart and start painting the chassis and etc.
