gettin serious now

Got my roll bar welded in this weekend all welded up ,looks pretty good ,seatbelts mounted,fabbed up a rear head pad.

I then took a good look at the car and took out the chop saw and cut just about 30 inches off the rear frame of the bucket
got some custom short leaf springs built for me at a local trailer manufacturer and am going to try them out, got the fuel tank remounted and battery box in,driveshaft shortened, it looks a lot better and i think i may have knocked off about 300 lbs of weight.
once i get it finished i will post some more pics on how it looks now

hey den with the zoomies on it and the way it sits its starting to look a little like one of the old time early 60s drag cars

Technically, those aren't "zoomies", they're weedburners. Zoomies turn up at the ends. Pick, pick, pick! But it does look better, and lighter hasta be good too.

went and weighed today at the dump scale,as is with a full tank 2870 lbs, still a heavyweight in the world of buckets, but pretty well 300 lbs lighter.havent got my front alum rims on yet as didnt get proper lug nuts for the track maybe next month. It shure seems to have a bunch more scoot
pope are you coming to the races on saturday? sounds like were going to have a big turnout. I am on 94 fm tomorrow am doing an on air interview. Did one last year and hope it works out well. No f bombs on the air:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

did a best of 12.96 at 101 mph at our races today:) :) :) big difference for about 300 lbs plus the weed burners,got lots of positive comments on the car and the rollbar.
made a total of 10 runs and was in the top ten in the king of the hill
where else can you get that many runs in for a 25.00 enty fee:toocool:

not bad for a stock engine caddy i am now wondering about a really mild convetor maybe 2000 to 2250 rpm stall speed to put behind it.
Ive got some buddies down the street that have been building a stong chev 302 v8 vega all winter rear subframe 9 inch ladder bars roll bar 3500 rpm stall slicks etc about 9 g worth. They were at the strip and we set up a grudge matchlate in the day, thats when i ran the 12.9 I had been leaving it in drive all day running easy 13.2s shifing at about 4200 rpm
this time i shifted manualy and run to about 4700 rpm and kicked them hard :LOL: :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:
their old man was there and was miffed,told me he cant figure why my car goes so fast.
i just told him its a cadillac:whacked: :whacked:

500 cubic inches and 2,870 lbs. shouldn't be too hard for the old man to figure out! :LOL:

Looks much improved with the new mods. Richard is right about those cubes vs weight. That engine was made to move a small apartment building around, so with that much less weight it has to haul the mail.

Do you remember the article "Caddy Hack" in one of the car magazines. They took a '70 Caddy and kept cutting parts off and making runs. They finally got down to a bare frame with slicks and a little drag seat. I think it ran in the 12'a, but they were hampered by no traction.

Yeah, Don, that was Hot Rod Magazine in the 90's. I tell you when, but I just finallly got rid of all my old magazines along with a bunch of other junk I don't need any more. I figure if I come up with a seriioud question, the answer can be found on the internet, one way or another.:LOL: :LOL:

It was a neat day i was starting to get up and run with some of the hotter sounding cars, some of them wernt even street cars and sounded like monsters and i kept right with them.

I have gained some respect in my club with some of the full time big budget racers, they were impressed how much i have picked up and havent even got into the motor.
Traction seems to have gotten much better but could not get any kind of a good burnout,as soon as the tires started to smoke they yanked me right out of the water box and onto the sticky, once right towards the starter :LOL: :LOL:
He wasnt expecting it and got out of his relaxed position on the chair pretty quick.
The 12.9 i did without a real burnout ,just rolled throught the water with the tires spinning. and then last run pulled around the water left it in drive and ran a 13.00 flat. no traction issues at all with the slicks even cold :toocool: :toocool: :toocool:
