    Talking newb check'n in

hi, my name is Carl. im 18 and live in northern california.

i have been into cars heavily since i was able to see over the wheel.

i participate occasionally in the wednesday night drags in my volkswagen bug. it is running a naturaly aspirated 2100cc flat four with dual 48mm weber IDF's. im considering a turbo, or a set of race heads. i have the car converted back for street use for the time being with front brakes and a 1600cc street motor with dual solex carbs while i rebuild the race motor(broken crank). i refuse to even think about using nitrous. just seems cheap. but thats me. i love seeing all the people my age look dumbfounded when their nissans and honduh's get passed up by a vw bug. anyway, thats my intro i guess. i have been on this site for a while, but have just recently come back because i like the people and atmosphere here.

Go for it Carl, Your my kinda guy. you remind me of myself when I was your age. I had a VW bus with a 426 Hemi Mid-Engine. I also had a passenger seat that was an old toilet and we would fill it with water and tootsie rolls. Those were the good ole days

Welcome. I know some of the guys don't think of VW's as hot rods, but I do. When my one Son was 14 we started building him a Cal Look bug. That was when you could find them for $ 25 to $ 100 each (Those days are LONG gone) we ended up with 8 of them and took the best parts off of each and built one out of it.

My ex-wife would raise H*** if she came home from work and there was another bug in the driveway, so the kids and I got so good at dismantling one we could have it stripped and hauled to the junkyard in 45 minutes. She would come home and never knew a new car had been there. (I'm still trying to figure out whey she divorced me )

Have fun on the forum and with your bug.

    Don

Welcome aboard Carl. It's great to see young hot rodders like you coming up. Us old farts are gonna be dyin' off soon and we need replacements. By the way, thanks for sayin' the correct "naturally aspirated" instead of the incorrect "normally aspirated".

thanks for the greet. my bug isnt my only project car. i also have a 41 chevy pickup that is disassembled right now. im putting a 235 in it with a 4 speed transmission. my uncle gave it to me because it was his parts truck for his 45 1/2 ton. so i got what was left and am pieceing it together with whatever parts he has discarded around our truck yard. i so far have a good running 235 inline six and a 4 speed tranny, but it needs to be rebuilt. so as time and money come, ill be piecing it together

im also part owner of a 1929 chevy coupe, but thats a long story

LOL!! tofreaking funny! tootsie rolls? ever use a snickers?

there is a couple of guys who show up with vw buses and single cabs that are v-8 powered. they steal the vw show. a lot of thought goes into the design of them. but bus prices are getting crazy now. a completely rusted out bucket will command a 10K asking price.

i am tired of the jap ricer scene, so i built my little kraut can just to show them up. and i have succeeded. am i the only one who thinks fart can exhaust and erector set bookshelf wings just look stupid?

and dont forget the mismatched bondo colored body kits.
