old time drag racing
i am going to a meeting wed night regarding the organizing of a local drag race meet. The city has agreed to provide the local air port landing strip for use as a temporary drag strip for a couple of semi organized events.
should be interesting to see what it turns out to be.
our closest strip is about 150 miles away
i think it will also serve for a test and tune for the serious guys who do race without hauling their cars all the way to the strip.
sounds intersting to me.
O i do hope some ricers show up!!!

Richard it was 50 years ago!!! some of us can just remember back further than others(its a good thing)
From what i have gleaned from this now they are going to try to adhere to the nhra rules as much as they can for street vehicles but no clocks or lights(NO BUDGET right now)
tech what are some of the major equipment rules for straight off the street cars? i was trying to fid a web site but find a lot of other stuff i dont want.
I am going to suggest they get the rcmp here involved as it give a bit of llegitamacy to the event( plus they have radar guns for trap speeds) cant hurt

well guys attended a meeting on the amature drag racing and it appears that it will be a go.
we are starting right from the begining.
tech may know the answer to the question i am asking , my bucket has a 4 point roll bar but i dont think its faster maybe a low 13 to high 12 (WHO KNOWS)
in the nhra rules is a nhra approved cage required on all convertible cars or only on cars faster than 11.99, we were discussing this in our meeting as i need to know. as this is a amature club were all going to have to kick in cash to get it going. i dont feel like rebuilding my roll bar to adhere for the ability to run down a airstrip.
secondly has anyone out there ever come across any plans for home building 1/4 mile start and time lights.
we are looking at renting a light syst and its about 1600.00 for 1 day . i think we could come up with something.

If you're going to use a flagman and he's never been out in the middle of a drag strip I'd suggest you run a few slow stockers by him fisrt to allow him to get his feet wet. Being in the middle of a drag strip is not for the feint of heart.

i will be pushing for some kind of starter light syst no matter what. i aint standing out there. there is at least one guy with a mid 10s car. i would crap myself to get in front of one of them.
can you believe we are going to charge 5.00 a head for spectators to just get people out there.

I know what you mean. I flagged Kalitta one Sunday when he was running gas and it did get a little hairy. At that time he was probably running in the 9's maybe, it's been too long ago and I don't remember.

i know i can build a simple portable red light green light setup for the races if we are not going to time anything anyways but i havbe been trying to seach the net tonight for some plans on how the tree syst works and cant find much.

Canadianal, You would love the event we are having this Friday and Saturday. It's at the new NHRA track in Tucson, Arizona, but it is a reunion event for the old AHRA track that closed 20 years ago. It used to host the Fuel Altered Nationals, and the AHRA Winternationals.

They are having a nostalgia car show and "Tucson Dragway" reunion display, and the races will feature nostalgia nitro front motor dragsters, nostalgia nitro funny cars, and nostalgia gassers. What could be better???

I won't bore you with the weather forecast. :-)~ ............(sunny & 80s)

Then I must say, with all due respect, that you are not ready to participate in organized drag racing. You may as well have everyone show up and run what he brung with no rules whatsoever, regardless of the possibility of injury or death.
