In the dyno tests I've seen, there was little difference in hp between different ignition systems, but like you have suggested, there is the reliability factor of a good ignition system.

Here is one source that I will try next, having been through all the MSD, Mallory and others through the years. It's a self-contained unit and they will curve it for you to your specific car and driving requirements. Add a good set of wires and you're done....
