You need to go to your local Drag Strip and hang around,,,ask lots of questions,,,and have lots of patience,,and be willing to get dirty.
Then pick a suitable set of wheels and spend some money."I don't know everything and i like it that way"

like Thunderbucket said, go to your local track, try going on test & tune night. I'll be honest with you when you ask questions only believe about 1/2 of what you are told. must yahoos will talk all kinds of crap. the best thing to do is think about what type of car you would like to use, then go to the track talk to the folks that use that style car. but I will warn you & I don't mean this in a disrespectfull way but the Chevy & import (aka) ricer people have more BS than most. they will tell you they only have X amount of $ in there car, or "it's all stock". I will tell you, quick = $$$. bracket racing can be alot of fun & you don't need a quick car, you just need to practice. now what they call heads up racing, unless you have very deep pockets you can forget it, usualy the one with the most $ wins.67 firebird just a 6 banger with a hair dryer & a few bolt on's 9.93 @ 134.64, Stage II power plant coming spring of 2008

'64...hmmm. Ford Thuderbolts??? Galxie's with dual quad 390's and tri-power 406's were pretty quick, too. Hard to say who was first, T-Birds were small car with a 312 and dual 4's in '57, even chebbie had an injected '57. I never thought it actually correct to say the GTO's started the muscle car deal.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I agree with You Dave ! If a 64 GTO gets the credit for starting the Muscle Car Era, What would you call the following?
63 Fords equipped with a 427--11.5 to 1 compression -2 holley 4 bbls. 425 hp @6000rpm.They also had the 405hp-406 ci. 11,4 to 1 compression with 3-2 bbl holleys.
63 Impalas and Biscaynes with 409s -425 hp. with 2 -4bbls
63 Plymouths and Dodges with the Super Stock II -426ci.Wedge engine 425 horsepower .Before that it was the 413ci.
63 Pontaic Catalinas with the 421 HO Tri Power 3-2s -370 horsepower-10.75 to 1 compression.( very conservative ratings)
The First Muscle cars , if thats what you want to call the cars from 64 GTOs on were bad,but its Super Stock big brothers were
Pretty Bad Too!

Competition rules…
I guess its not that hard to get involved in drag racing, all you need is to attend the NHRA Sport Compact event at Moroso, and make at least one legitimate qualifying attempt at the Moroso event. Qualifying attempt is defined as staging under power, and taking the start signal. The problem begins with coming up with the cash to build a good engine. I guess I’ll stick to being a fan and race with my frieds. Anybody going to the Moroso Motorsports Park in W. Palm Beach, Fla. On Aug. 20 – 21.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
