The bench seats that are designed for these cars fit very well, the seat backs do not protrude above the rear deck on a roadster, they keep you close the to the floor so you can see out of chopped coupes and you don't stick out of roadsters like a giraffe.

With a properly designed cockpit, you CAN have plenty of room, the key is staying down, and back. If you get a big fat foam/plywood seat that puts you up and forward, then you are very cramped.
