On the way back from Liberal KS in Shamrock TX yesterday
Great photos . . . and memories for me - a 1950's gas pump jockey.
Myself also Henry, Pops had a 3 bay/ 6 pump Gulf station in So Cal I spent many an hour @ both workin and playin
So how do you end up in Shamrock, TX on the way from Liberal, KS to Durant, OK?? Nice pictures, and I like that old wrecker in the background of the first shot, too.
Roger, straight down hiway 83 thru Shamrock left on 62 south of Wellington Tx
over to DUNCAN OK not Durant.
Just a fun little 320 miles 1 way
I always forget about that skinny OK panhandle! In my mind KS is due north of OK, and TX is south of OK.... Plus Liberal is waaaaaaaay out in SW KS, too.
"Get your kicks on Route 66" - - - I was born in Shamrock in 41. My Dad worked at that Conoco Towers Station and later at the Ford Garage in town. My Mom worked as a waitress in the Cafe next door called the U Drop In back in the early 40s. When Johnboy went thru there last year he picked up a lapel pin and sent it to me. Got kinfolk in Duncan and great memories of that country. Great pics and thanks for sharing.
meller
Haha!
Yeah, can't remember now; but I think I also sent you what would be virtually the same photos!
Strange how iconic buildings like that attract people . . .
:) :)
Just finishing up the 32 this month, going to drive up to Chicago from Daytona Beach in it, catch Route 66 and take the journey all the way to the Pacific Ocean with lots of experiences and photos to look forward to on the way.
Easy Trivia Question:
Name the radio personality who was born in Shamrock. Really easy for anyone who lived in North Texas for more than
1 hour.
Very cool pics and that tow truck in pic 1 is pretty sweet too!
That's the way we did it last time too.

Going east to west the time zone changes work for you, rather than losing an hour's sleep you can hit the road an hour earlier the next day.
We had a ball . . . and got a lot of laughs in along the way.
It's a great trip across a great country; saw some great sights and met with some great people.
(Also met some total idjits; so dumb they couldn't find the seat of their trousers with both hands. But they were a minority.)
Going to have to do it again one day; but this year it'll be Scotland we'll be touring.
These are some pretty cool shots, nice car & nice background.
