I think it's great that you're carrying on with your late dad's enjoyment........should be a fine memory for your kids.
Your plan to use it a bit before deciding where to take it next is a good one. You'll probably discover some things you'll like and dislike about it's current configuration that you can't know as yet. Since you live in the hot bed of rodding, getting inspiration shouldn't be too difficult. Make a summer quest to hit as many shows as you can. Head for Pomona in a couple weeks (father's day), you won't find a bigger or more diverse "show". Bound to be some inspiration there.......
