Column drop question
Ready to buy my column and drop. The lenght of the drop is my concern. If i need a 5 inch drop does the 5 inchs start from the top of the drop to the top of the hole or does it start from the center of the column hole? A 5 inch drop from the center of the hole with a 1 3/4 cloumn would make a difference in the angle.

Reading this should help, lots of good tech info if you browse a little.
Looks like we posted the same info at the same time. :3dSMILE:

As you're looking at your column layout look closely at the relationship of the bottom of the column and the connecting U-Joint to the engine, and especially to the plugs. I cut the hole in the firewall, and once everything was in place that top U-Joint is so close to my LR plug that I have to use a cut down socket that has a hex cut on top to access that one. Dropping the column 1/4" more would have eliminated that problem. In fact, I may pull the column one of these days, shift it down a smidgen and do a bit of glass work to fill the holes. Another tip that I got from the guys at N&N was to use a cheap chrome exhaust tip extension mounted to the firewall to catch and anchor the bottom of the column - the rolled end acts as a stop, and with a couple of tabs welded on the top end at the proper angle you can bolt it to the firewall with SS button heads and it's a clean look for your column end. Just some details to consider.
