I used to have a Pinto back in the 70's,,,,,,loved that car!
Take care
There is no denying that it has slowed down quite a bit over the past several months. Not being negative, just honest as I see it. I keep checking back to see what's new and it seems the same threads are up unposted on. I am really sorry to see that too as this place used to be really hoppin'.
Every once in a while I will try to post some thread and it gets a fraction of the posts they did at one time, so I don't do it so much anymore. :( It just has a different feel somehow.
Don
Hard to say what it is but it is the same for most of the hobbyist forum's that I visit. I would say that overall all posts are down 25-30% average just in the last couple of years. My guess is more than 50% on some forums.
Burn out? Happens to everything, maybe everyone is in their happy room slinging wrenches, they sure as hell are not working no jobs. It will pick up again weather is cooling down and folks are running out of money.
Seems to be happening more than just here. I'm on a couple others that are way down also. I personally have been busy so I haven't been getting as much computer (internet) time lately.
I've just looked at several other forums that I either frequent or have had some passing interest in at one time or another. All of them are down in participation, either in sheer numbers of folks posting or the level of "quality". Without any statistics other then gut feel, if you are of working age (whatever that is now) you are busy trying to make ends meet - and that's more then just financial. Kids, relatives, jobs, homes, other interests are vying for your time. If you are retired/out of the work force and living on savings and Social Security - have you been to the grocery store lately? Put gas in your DD? Put a new roof on your home? Beyond expensive now and where does that leave your car hobby when it comes time to buy food vs. a new intake manifold.
If you want a wake up call, spend some time drilling through the numbers and back pages here, particularly the far right column: U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time
Yesterday, that proudly announced 8.6% unemployed - pure unadulterated BS. It's really about 18% (24MM divided by 140.6MM).
Wonder why it's slow:mad:
Same here everyone. Between the holidays and the taxes due. The weather turning cold. All there seems to be is eat sleep and work. The most exciting thing going on is our dog had to have surgery. His left testicle never fell. A few more days and he will be good. I think it will pick back up after the first of the year. Happy Holidays Everyone.
P.S. did any of you guys feel that as you were reading it.LOL
For me, had computer issues, fixed up my daughter's truck for senior pictures, basement flooded, 5 deaths since the 2nd week of November, wife had surgery, and too dang tired to get on. Doesn't mean not interested, just no energy. With that being said, I will start a new thread if I find the spot for it. My wife bought me an early birthday present.
Participation is down, not a lot of new builds going on right now...I'd hate to put up pics of my work, mostly electrical stuff getting the Plymouth finished and gone and I wouldn't want to bore everybody.... CHR has gone through changes and brought out the "us vs. them" posts, hate to see that happen but it does on most every forum from time to time.
When the holidays are over and folks have more time to get settled in to some serious shop time again it'll pick up on here like it always does. CHR has never been a huge forum with a gazillion new posts everyday, more of a forum composed of Hot Rodders and Racers looking to learn a bit more and share what they have learned. I'll be glad to see the negativity and hostility fade away and have the forum back on the really important issues in life, family, Hot Rods, and race cars!!!! I'm sure that CHR will eventually get back to being a group of enthusiasts sharing their love of anything with four wheels and people will leave all the hostilities at the front door.
We had our 10th anniversary earlier this year. In that time we've gone thru a number of forward and backward times, but admittedly none this "bad". I suspect there's a general malaise in the country similar to what some of us old timers remember from the late 70s, coupled with the mini revolt over the forum software/configuration change and this is the result. We built it from nothing 10 years ago, and can probably do it again, but as then it will take patience and persistence....................if those that remain active to whatever degree are willing to do it.............myself included.
Sorry,Uncle Bob..Im stayin around..:D I like this place,,and I dont spend as long on here as I want to..Im busy right now,,and should be in the workshop,,will be in a few minutes..very busy..One other forum I belong to is very slow, for various reasons. They seem to have their highs and lows...
I haven't been here as long as Uncle Bob but I have been here long enough to survive a couple of the other revolutions that CHR lived thru and I intend to stay on. People come and go on forums for a variety of reasons, CHR is no different. I've joined and lost interest in 3 or 4 others forums over the years as I'm sure most people have. I'm not a computer guy, so I've never let the changes in the format bother me as I don't have any more then the most basic understanding of what it takes to run a forum. What I do know is that Brent only does what he feels is best for the forum and I go along with it. If I don't understand how or why something works on here I've never had any difficulty finding someone to help me through it. I've been accused of looking at things on too simple of a level, but I see participation in this or any other forum to be quite simple, if you're not part of the solution, then you must be part of the problem.
I've just been lurking for a bit, while my New Age Motorsport Coupe is still in the waiting stages. Ed told me that he should be starting my car after the new year. He had 3 ahead of me and a bunch of headers to do. In the meantime, I will post some pictures of my 521 (stroked 460) that will be going in. My Sanderson Jaysters should be here any day now, so I will post a picture when I bolt them on. I will be a posting fool once we get the car going. :D
Awesome! I can't wait to see it!
I seem to go in spurts. Like most here, I still work a 40 hour plus week and sometimes I just don’t have enough left over to engage in an intelligent conversation with the wife, much less on line.
I really do appreciate those who post here and continue to learn – especially on the technical side from those of you who build engines for a living. The numbers that people provide from simulation programs are helpful and I am continually amazed at the technology that we’re seeing in the head department. The introduction of CNC was fifty years ago and it just keeps improving along with the compute power that drives it. I remember reading technical articles from Zora Duntov in the sixties and thinking, “surely this is the ultimate small block Chevy!” Duntov would be smiling at the results from the current generation aluminum heads sitting on basically the same engine he worked with in the 1950’s.
I’ve always loved cars and this is, in my opinion, the best site to exchange ideas that have been proven with years of experience. I try and add my two cents where it makes sense but have to admit that there many here who leave me in the dust when it comes to the finer points on tuning and tweaking. I am always encouraged by the build threads and I like to see and hear about the innovative ideas people come up with in regard to scratch built components from consoles to suspension parts or “big-block Cadillac transplants performed by pretty girls!” I keep working on my little Nova (started it up last week! Yeah – she sounds real good) and I will drive it one day soon. Priorities shift and change and we just need to remember that the only thing that’s the “end-of-the-world” is well, the end-of-the world!
The interior and paint jobs shared by members here are off the chart – doesn’t matter if it’s a rat rod or a high end “built-to-sell”, I enjoy reading about the project and try and take something for “future reference” from most of them.
Equally enjoyable are the friendships and personal posts. Where else will you have people world-wide thinking about you and praying for you during heart surgery? I think we all love Dave’s granddaughters even though few of us have had the opportunity to actually meet them. I plan road trips with CHR folks in mind and look forward to coffee with people whom I consider friends long before we meet face-to-face.
So post when you can and know that in between those times we’ll be thinkin’ about you and hoping all is well with you hot rod, your dogs, your kids, etc. (not so much with the cats…)
Regards All,
Glenn
That was an AWESOME post Glenn!!!!!
X2! Once again Glenn, very well said! Your words captured what I have tried to say many times. Thank You!
I'm just in a down period financialy, but enjoy reading friends on here postings, whether about cars, pets or life, the good people here keep me checking in. I think the times are tough for a lot of us financially and, projects in this hobby are expensive, so we sort of put them on the back burner, or get distracted by the things that require our immediate attention. I stay on here to keep motivate, and learn as I go. I'm willing to weather it out for a while, at least until the truck gets done!
I for one have slacked off for the last 6 months to a year or so. Not for any format changes or lack of interest though, mostly because of a coming move. Have been spending more time in the yard fixing neglected repairs and some time in the house doing the same. Also hiring out and doing myself some remodeling. After 20 years in one spot things really pile up. Because of the above I haven't done much to the 34 lately but hopefully will get a few things done in the next few weeks and post a few pics. So much for lame excuses.;)
Jack.
The other site I spend time on is really hopping, and I`m assuming it is because of the price of trucks is down, and the new owners are young and very egar to get them done, the site has picked up 42 new members in the last four months and that was just one section with which I partake in, two other truck sites have maybe one new post a month, CHR seems to me to be doing fairly well comparably to those, maybe its cost / issue with the rides they are working on and the overall economy has all in a tight grip.
