New Age Motorsports Chassis

Just got back from Connecticut, picked up my rolling Graffiti Tribute chassis. First off, Ed and his son are great folks. They took the time to explain each aspect of what I had purchased. He also explained how to prep it for paint correctly, and great other advice on what I should do. I found him to be a valuable asset of knowledge. As of 12:00 yesterday, I have a new 32 Guru and friend.

I have to say, this thing is put together like a tank. Boxed in, has a center section that looks like something NASA would use. The TIG welds are all clean and beautiful. If I was to say I am impressed, it would be an understatement. I had heard thru the grapevine that this cat was good, but man, you wouldn't believe it. While I was there, Ed showed me some bodies he makes. The fiberglass work is flawless, and after he gets the reinforcing steel in it, the doors shut like an all steel body would ( if not better ). All around the windows was wood framing that looked like a cabinet shop had fitted it. They were awsome. I also bought a chopped grill shell and headlamps. They as well are excellent.

Here's some pictures of it and a pic of the wonderful welding he does ( forgive my photography skills ). I will vouch for them anytime. ( Sorry, my shop is small and a wreck )

That frame and chassis are excellent. Such a smart way to begin a build. I hope my Son Don doesn't see this thread, he's getting ready to pull the trigger on something and a Graffiti coupe is at the head of the list.:):)

Project..., funny that you said that. At the last local car show here, a gent had a black 55 with "Looking for Milner" written small on the back glass. I told him " Be careful what you wish for....He's coming".:D

Jacplumb, sorry I missed ya. We was burning up interstate Saturday. We went from Richmond Va to Connecticut and back all in 1 day. What a trip !! I had that Duramax in the wind. Once we picked her up, we were trying to get back in time to drag her thru our local car show and show off the construction of this thing. We were 12 minutes late. The driving wasn't bad, but the Tolls with the trailer Eat me alive. It costed 75.00 in tolls, just to go up. One toll in Maryland charged me 5.00 for the pickup and 18.00 for the trailer. The only bad stretch I ran into was New York just after I came off the Washington bridge. Not the drivers, but the potholes tried to swallow the truck & trailer.

Nope, no body for it yet, got to get some more scratch together. Shoot, I had to sell guns, do side work on others cars, and some minor prostitution ( I'm not proud of ) to buy the chassis.:3dSMILE:

Yea, not easy going from point A to point B these days but glad you made it, Ed is about 1 hour + for me, and $1.00 toll without a trailer. I will be picking up another frame he is doing for me. Graffiti Correct with all original cross members. we put the rails in the jig that day. and hey, keep that prostitution stuff to your self! Jack

We're getting there !!! So far I've blew out 2 checking accounts and melted 3 Visa cards.... Anybody in the market for a kidney or slightly blown out left lung ?? HMMMM, I don't think those kids NEED to go to college anyway, so where did I put that bank book at??:LOL: Hopefully by sunday I'll have the radiator mounted and headlamps on.

Have you found a body yet, and are you getting it from Ed? Just curious about building that terrific chassis without mocking up the body on the frame.

Henry, No body yet. But it seems that the way Ed put this thing together, it's like a big jigsaw puzzle that goes together real easy. When I do get a body, it will probably be from him. He used one of his bodies as the template ( he already drilled the body mount holes ). So, If I just stick with the way he laid it out, and use the pieces that he used to lay it out, I should be OK. Everything I am doing now is the things I can do and get out the way, without having the body here. I guess sooner or later I will start getting to the point that I will need to have the body here in order to proceed further. If I follow the Yellow Brick Road he laid out, it should stay fairly smooth, I figure.

You are correct Weasel Diesel, Ed's bodies are made on a buck to match his frames so no mock up is really needed. This is just one reason that I love dealing with Ed and Chris as everything they do over at New Age Motorsports is really thought out long and hard as they don't just throw things together and say here you go. I have been dealing with Ed and Chris for some time now and I have always been 100% happy with EVERYTHING they have made for me.

I can't wait to see a body sitting on your chassis!

Be careful..no experience with the roadster but the coupe was not perfect by any standard.The chassis was also a bit off. About 150 hours in the body to make it rite and the chassis was a bit messed up in the tail. Now we are in CT so it did not ship far. I would not finish anything till i did a complete assembly. Cant beat the car for the money but its got its little deals.....

I fixed the chassis and it was out of square over 1 1/2 inches. The roller rearend was so badly rusted inside it had to be replaced. It was also not jig welded as it was distorted from welding. Hey do what you please.....hey maybe tell me the story on were the body molds were bought and first built LOL. I know do you? Of coarse you do you work for them.LOL

Well, you didn't hurt my feelings. we all have one thing in common here we all have a love for hot rods. it is very hard to find a good hot rod shop especially one that can produce several different components such as bodies and frames too. I have followed the body from when flatlanders were producing them and was going to buy one back then. I had met with Allen Thorten years ago and he had said he sold the body business to someone in ct. so I put it off a couple of years, Allen also stated that his molds were very old and needed a lot of work and the new company was spending a lot of money to re-do them. I am glad I did because meeting with Ed at newage some years later he took me on a tour of his shop and really impressed me how someone could put his heart and sole into a business and put out products that he will stand behind 100% I personally have bought a coupe body, and not 1 but 2 frames from Ed I had my bodyman stop by my house and look at the body before I bring it to him, and he stated he can't believe how easy it will be to prep & paint. I have seen several other bodies in person that were sold by Ed and got the same response from them. I don't think any rod build can ever go exactly right you will always need to massage it. I am only a hard working plumber from Jersey, I don't work for Ed. but I do Know if someone ever had a problem he would without a doubt tell them to bring it back and he would make it right! I don't think we are here to start any trouble, just to get some feedback and knowledge on the projects we build. I truly know Ed does the right job and puts his heart into his products. no hard feelings, no hard times given. Thanks, Jack

No sheehite Sherlock. Of course it will have to come back apart for the body to be painted. What did you think ?, that I was going to assemble the whole car and get out 13 cans of Krylon or a roller and a tray of latex ??:LOL::LOL:

I've heard the horror stories in some of the other builder's posts, and all the stuff the have had to fight in assembling their rides. My build so far, ( knock on wood ) has been smooth as silk. That is what I was conveying. But I will say this, If I invest the money in which these parts cost, and If I run into a problem, the manufacturer will hear from me for sure. And usually, It is probably something I am doing wrong that is causing the problem.

A good glass body takes a minimum of work to get it ready for paint. My Outlaw 3 window body was very straight, and my painter said it took less than a cup of filler to get it ready for paint, and that was mainly used where I permanently attached the rear fascia piece to the body. What a lot of people don't realize is that a good body may cost more up front, but you save tons of time and money prepping it for paint.
