What kinda mufflers do you guys run?

My 32 HiBoy will have a strong running 350. This car will be a driver...i would like to best of both worlds Great exhaust sound but not too loud or annoying on a long cruise. What brand of mufflers would you recommend? I plan on running the exhaust out so it ends right behind the rear wheels...kinda hidden.

Well, I guess you could find me guilty of being stuck in the 50's, but I still like a pair of 36" glasspaks with pipes to the rear. Take a long bar and knock out the diffuser in the middle and install them with the louver openings facing to the rear of the car.

I run the flowmasters delta force 3 1/2" on my latest car. They might sound somewhat the same on most cars, but they sound good. I like them because they are fairly quiet at cruise and idol, then they get loud and really breathe when you climb into it. I run a big block so they sound different compared to most because most people run small blocks. Very short video, a vrey cold start and kinda idol.

I before have ran the Dynomax super turbos 2 1/2", they sound good and are a little louder then the flowmasters at cruise and idol.

Ive got the Dynomax Bullets for the Anglia, but it will be a while before I hear them, I am sure they are just loud all around, 3" straight through design.

I agree with tango. You would like Dynomax Super Turbos. I run Dynomax Ultra Flows because I like the deep, throaty, performance sound, but they are a little loud for some people.

On mine & the kids 69 442, Josh wanted Flowmasters. I checked and they where $80 a pop, Sooooooo it got standard ole AP Exelrator Turbos through my exhaust supplier $14 a piece my cost. I think they sound wonderfull,of course Josh thinks they're not loud enough.. Guess I thunk just like him when I was 18.

We car guys know that the sounds coming out of the exhaust is an important element in the overall appearance of the car. The exhaust note has to match the era we are shooting for.....ie, Flowmasters are great, but don't really fit what we want on a traditional '50's style hot rod. For that kind of car something like Smitty's or glasspacks is more in tune (pun intended) .

Over the years I've used everything from glasspacks to Cherry Bombs to Corvair type turbo mufflers to etc. I try to tailor the sound to what I want the car to be. On my '27 I wanted a nice tone so I went with mufflers from Stainless Specialties. My friends said they were too quiet, but I drove the car daily and if it were too loud that can wear on you a little over time. But on my '23 I wanted it loud and in your face, so I went with open lakes headers at first, but the sound was more like a truck with holes in the mufflers, so I built baffles that quieted them down and to me have a more pleasing tone.

So, my vote kind of goes for Smitty's on an early type rod or custom, Turbo or Cherry Bombs on a 60's muscle car, and Flowmasters on more modern cars like 5.0 Mustangs and the like.
