Just like NASCAR hurt their attendance when they decided to "modernize" their sport by bringing in rock bands for entertainment, cookie cutter cars, lucky dog rule, etc. etc. They alienated their grass roots fans and the enthusiasm and attendance for the sport started falling long before the economy hurt them. lots of empty seats at every race and I don't have any friends attending Nascar events any more where many had that as their main hobby for a lifetime before. NSRA is on the same path. Thousands of "open" car shows to attend all over the country each year. Only a few pre 49 events to attend, which made them special and had their own following. NSRA is just another show in the big pond of car shows to choose from now. Nothing special to attend for. Only about 20% of my street rod friends go to NSRA events now where almost all of them did before.

I don't know why everyone fussed about the change to a rolling 30 year cut off. The show was GREAT!!!! Who really wants to look at line after line of 32 ford anyways? Really?
An added benefit of the rule change was that there were more open parking spaces!!!

Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Great photo documentary you have done there. Exactly why most of my friends who have spent over 25 years and untold amount of money supporting NSRA events, going to many events mostly because we wanted to support a pre 49 club (business), do not attend any NSRA events anymore. Like I said in my last post. NSRA is just another fish in the great big pond of thousands of car shows we have the option to attend across the United States now. Being the big fish in the small pond was a lot nicer!!!!!!!! With all the new fiberglass reproductions cars being built and all the old real one's being rebuilt at a greater pace than ever before, there are plenty of new vehicles and people coming into the hobby to keep pre 49 car show well and prospering. I think a change to a 60 year old car or older would have been accepted rather well. But they jumped off the cliff and are on the way to a very hard crash with the new policy.

I guess we all have opinions on what is right and wrong, should be included or not. Just seems funny that we can't promote custom auto building and restoration as a whole, without dividing into clicks. I may not like Pacers but I don't criticize people who love them and spend time customizing them. I understand also clubs for specific vehicle affectionados, like corvette, or more general GMC vs. Ford, etc. So I can see people who like pre 40's vehicles supporting just that. I guess when it comes to a big organization there is always growth pains and financial issues to think about. I like car show period. Over time it gets dull seeing the same car with same setup, same aftermarket parts, and wheels, just painted different and different interiors. The last show I went to I got a kick out of all the outside the box projects and rods there. It was nice seeing something different. With almost 100 years of cars in production, we have a lot of diversity to see and enjoy!"
