I considered Super Trapps - that is until I heard a few cars with them. Most, to me, anyhow, don't sound nice and burbbly (new word) just a somewhat muted blatt. Not even sure about my 3 chamber Flowmasters yet until I get a few miles on them. They seem to drone even driving up and down the driveway and around the block. I do like Smithy's
but hung outside like a 'bucket.........

It’s funny that this topic should come up again now, I’ve been kicking around changing the mufflers on my 57 Plymouth. I really fell Dons comment form a couple of years ago really rings true.
“…..The exhaust note has to match the era we are shooting for…..”
When I first put the car together I put on a set of Dynomax mufflers and absolutely did not like the sound. I pulled them off (they eventually ended up on the Transam which they sound great on) and went with a set of reproduction 60s Hemi mufflers.
The Hemi mufflers sound exactly like I remember the stock GTXs, Road Runners and Cop cars sounding like….reasonably quiet but a nice rumble when you nail it. It also has a good sound level inside the car.
The problem is I don’t think it fits the car, I’ve been kicking around a good old pair of glasspacks.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

In Il. you have to have your pick-up truck safety inspected. I think it was once a year don't remember now. I always went to the same place and never had any problems. The last time I went there they had a new inspector. He started my truck with the shop doors closed . He asked what kind of mufflers you got on there? NONE just pipes out the back been that way for years. He scraped off my inspection sticker and told me to get some on there or park the truck. Glad I moved to MI no inspections here. I hate mufflersCharlie

Inspections in IL are just for the more populated areas. I've lived in IL for about 25 years now and have never been through an inspection lane. If I lived 25 miles north it would be a different story, go figure.

Emission inspections are just in the Chi area and downstate near St Louis area for cars and B plate pickups are exempt but D and heavier are inspected all over

Another opinion
We have super traps dumping out right behind the door on a 32. I like them because they can be completely open or you can mute them down. We have been totally happy except for breaking a couple of screws off changing discs.Danny
