I like the fire paint jobs too, but they seem to get out of hand. I guess the same goes for more traditional flame jobs, IMHO simple is usually better.
Here is a different take on a flame paint job that I like. This was painted by Foose at my friend Bo's hot rod shop. It's been around for a couple years now, so maybe you've already seen it. They call it Medeusa for the wild snakey (word?) headers.

He has pictures of the entire build on his website http://www.vescioscustomizing.com/ in the "Projects" section.
There used to be an hour long video of Chip Foose laying out and painting the flames on his website, but I couldn't find the link - interesting process.
One more notion on the topic of flames:
In my opinion, the flames should start at the firewall, hood side vents, or wheelwells, not at the front of the car. Just had to say that - it's one of my pet peeves.

Hi Steve, This blue is fairly close to my PPG blue pearl or Daytona blue as Nissan calls it. My top color is this blue which is found only on 350 ZX Nissans from 2002 up. Now I have a good idea what the tru fire flames will look like because my flames are like these with reds, oranges, and yellows. My flames will come out from behind the open vents in the dual scoops on the Hagan side panels and not above the vents like this 34 pic. My dual scoops were machined open and vent spears were custom made which will overlay part of the flames. I'm excited/nervous to see how this will unfold being on two different colors. I've got my fingers crossed that hopefully I have hit the nail on the head. June 13th I will know for sure when I pick it up. **) Hoping to be on the road within a month after that. The chassis & interior are already done ready and waiting. :DQuote:
