I'm headed out with 3 other buddies on thursday morning to the Goodguys show in Columbus OH, I hear its the biggest one... supposedly about a 5 hour trip, by far the furthest one I've taken my car on yet, although I've racked up almost 2000 miles the past 2 months just riding around with a grin on my face, so hopefully the trip will go smoothly and without a hitch...Was just wondering if anyone from here will be there.

Won't be there this year but have made the trip several times in the past. Originally event was a gridlock nightmare on the field, but has improved greatly over the years. Always enjoyed it especially when staying at the host hotel (used to be the Marriott). About 8 hours from south central PA so about 5 from where you are, but it is a nice ride, especially through eastern Ohio.
Watch for cops, I've heard that Ohio still has a death penalty for speeding.:eek: :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

And I have NEVER seen so many ugly cars in one place in my entire life. I left the IRP @ after only 3 hours of looking around. Way too many clunkers ... looking like they were fresh off the back lot of the used car lot on the wrong side of town. Unwashed, beat up junk.
I like the 50's cars and I can look at the muscle cars ... but 4 door Falcons, Valients and cars that looked like they were in the " Blues Brothers movie crash scenes " Just is not my idea of a car show.

Deuce, as an owner of a 50's leadsled, I can appreciated your feelings regarding the clunkers. Like many others, I have a streetrod and a 50's car, mine happens to be a mild custom versus a bone stock car like so many tri-fives are. But I don't like to look at the plain jane clunkers either and thusly will avoid those areas.
I prefer the NSRA events over the Goodguys but not because of the year restrictions. It's because of other things which might seem unimportant to many. Been to Lou'ville and it was fun despite the horrible heat (106 for 4 days straight) and the car breaking down on the trip down and having to be trailered to Tampa for repairs (no parts in Lou'ville).
Lou'ville will always be pre-49, but many of the other NSRA events may eventually go to pre-77 or beyond, four already, possibly more in the future. Money matters.
I will be ther leaving Wednesday afternoon. Have to work out there Thursday so need to be there early.
I think you will have a good time for sure. IMO GG puts on a show as good or better then NSRA for the most part. Louisville is better than Columbus as far as car count. GG is more modern and the class of car in general are nicer then NSRA. NSRA is an older crowd and in many cases it shows in their cars and the way the run the shows.
Both have great people and cars but IMO GG shows 40 % of the cars are top notch NSRA I would say it us about 30% or lower.
I attend about 8-10 shows of each this is one of the few I get to bring my car so I do enjoy it.
Best show in the Country as far as I am concerned is Back to teh 50's in St.Paul or Hot August nights in reno

thats funny , and then you like NSRA , i have been to them all and i hate NSRA events because of the crap , 11k cars 10.5k are junk 4 doors and how many 32's do we have to look at before we see something different ? NSRA = NATIONAL STUCKUP RETIRED ASSOCIATION .

I guess it all boils down to what you own and what you like. If you go by Icebergs statement 30% of the cars at NSRA are top notch ... that is over 3,000 vehicles. ( 30 % of 0ver 10,000 ) 40% Top notch vechicles would be the GoodGuys is 2400 vechicles. ( 40% of 6,000 ) And a lot of them ( most ) are newer 50 something up vehicles.
I actually went by the BOOTH where Iceberg works but he was not @ Indy ... :( Wanted to meet him in person.
If all you see are 10 thousand 500 4 doors at the NSRA show ... you must be looking at the same 4 doors over and over. I happen to like 4 doors ... :D if they are done well ... My issue is with the " ratty rods "

As a general rule ... the National Stuckup Retired Association vehicles are owned by OLD RETIRED GUYS ... :mad: and they usually have the $$$ to build or buy a decent vehicle

Charlotte? Now there's one Goodguys event that I truly do like, but I wish they hadn't moved it to the last weekend in October from the third weekend. The weather there is usually a lot nicer the week before. About the same distance as Columbus for me, but a more enjoyable event. Probably due to being in the fall instead of the hot summer.
Matter of fact outside of York, my two favorite events are Turkey Run and Charlotte. Both of which are fall events. :D :D :cool:
I attend most but Indy weekend I was doing another show. Cant remember where....they all run together after a while. We have 3 trucks on the road. Hope to catch up to you sometime.
Myschedule for now is Columbus, Syracuse, Carlisle Truck, Hot August night, Pebble Beach, Carlisle Corvettes then not sure.
NSRA and GG are both a great time. I like it at the hotels after the show. I get to see more cars and people when not working
Think I'll just stay home and work....so what else is new, huh??
I attended the York NSRA event this spring, and it was the first major outing I ever took my hotrod to. I should also note that I had a blast, and rank it as one of the most fun weekends I can remember. I have been into musclecars for years (also have a "real" 70 Yenko Deuce Nova), and have done a ton of shows dealing with 60's and 70's musclecars... but one thing I noticed when standing in line to get my registration stuff was that myself and my younger brother (we are ages 32 and 27) were BY FAR the youngest 2 guys to be seen anywhere.(actually it was my 57 year old father that pointed this out) I saw a handful of people relatively my age throughout the weekend, but it was definitely predominated by 60+ year olds... Does this make any difference? Not really, and after typing all that I wonder why I even noted it, but one thing the hotrod community definitely needs to work on is getting younger guys interested in the hobby... I'm not saying that it needs to be overrun with punk kids, as I wouldn't like that either, and actually love hanging out with, and learning from guys that have been doing this stuff for many years, (even the grouchy ones;) ) but if more guys my age don't start gaining interest, those large numbers at the NSRA events are slowly going to get smaller and smaller. I'm not pro-Goodguys or anti NSRA or anything like that, but I CAN see how Goodguys has been able to include more hobbyists, young and old, wealthy and not so wealthy, show queen cars as well as some that are a little less desireable and a little rougher around the edges... I'm fortunate to have a couple pretty nice cars, but I guess my point is, I never look down at anyone who's into the hobby, just because they don't drive what i might consider an ideal car. Alot of those 4 door, not so nice, not so hot looking cars are someone's pride and joy, and they are just doing the best they can with the money and know-how they have, and trying to enjoy the same hobby as everyone else. Maybe I'm too tolerant, but I just figure everyone deserves to be able to participate if they are into it. I can have just as much fun BS'ing with a guy who's got nothin' as I can with a guy that has a stable full of top notch hot rods.... With that said, hopefully I'll get a chance to meet some of you guys in Columbus. -JB

I have worked two jobs most of my life ... ( one as a government employee ... and we ALL know they do not make any serious $$$ ) ... You just have to set your goals and work towards them.

Well said.....also why I think the guys in the tunnes need a break sometime. Granted some of them act like idiots butr many are just young kids having fun with cars they can afford. Some day they might move to an older car that they can afford. The fact remains people of all ages must be involved in the car hobby if we expect it to continue to grow and draw corporate sponsors.Quote:

Well, I am home from Columbus, and must say, I had an awesome time... Car ran flawlessly both there and back, had PERFECT weather, and met lots of great folks... Also wanted to take a moment to give my personal thanks to Iceburgh, who went WAY outta his way to fix some swirl marks on my buddy's 34 roadster. I had never actually met him before, just knew him through this website, but he treated me like a true friend...Sorry for the cliche', but he really was a "goodguy". Thanks! Here's a couple pics of the weekend, including some "on the road" shots, and an overhead shot of Iceburgh's deuce, taken from the skylift.

The majority of the cars actually look better than most of the ones I saw at INDY ... and more pre early 50's also. :)

Deuce, there were tons of cars in general...that's what I thought was cool about it, if you were into hi-tech, mega dollar Foose/Boyd inspired cars, there were tons to see, if you were into 60's musclecars or street machines, there were tons to see, heck if you were strictly into 32 fords only, you could have spent a full day just looking at those, all neatly lined up in 4 big rows side by side. I enjoyed looking at everything, and I'm sure there were tons of cars i never even got a chance to see. I really thought it was a neat show, and hope to go back next year. Here's a couple more Deuces i liked.

The green 32 almost Roadster ( real roadsters do not have side windows ) ... must be a Dearborn Deuce car. The dash is a 32 3W style dash ... with the glove box and all ... Dearborn Deuce makes some of those dashes too ...
I like the 3W dash look ... in a roadster. :D

I'd love to go to Louisville... if the weather was as nice for the trip as it was on thursday headed to Columbus, I'd be there in a heartbeat... I can honestly say it was the nicest ride i ever took in my roadster. If I would have turned around and just drove home after I got there it still would have been a perfect day, and an awesome ride. My car gets a little hairy in the rain, with no side curtains or wipers, so good weather is always a big factor for long trips. I will say that the bias ply tires did a fantastic job, and all 3 of the guys i was travelling with had 4 wheel independent suspension cars with radials. I was afraid I would hold them back, but ended up able to roll along just fine. What's the date for Louisville? Thats a good 10 hour trip for me, but I'm thinkin......:cool:
I had a great weekend...did not get to see as much as I would have liked but saw plenty and had more fun at the hotel parking lot in the evening.
I also was able to get a few items I needed for my pickup I am building.
Both your cars looked great...I will get a chance and post my pics and a link.
The green 32 was owned by a woman....looked pretty good. :D

I usually come home in 1 day ... but going up ... I like to wander thru Pigeon Forge TN and spend the night ... and arrive in Louisville mid day.
I have been to most all of them over the years. I was not @ Peoria ( But my 32 was :) ) . I went to Memphis, Detroit, Oklahoma, St. Paul, Columbus, Syacuse and Louisville. My NSRA number is 20#* ... so I have been a member a LONG time.
Some of the years ... I drove my daily ... lately either the 40 Ford coupe or my roadster. Hope to have the 32 3W done by 2008.
Was planning on having the 3W ready for 2007 ... but stuff happens ... :o
I doubt I'll be able to make it this year, but will shoot for attending in 2008, and come see your freshly finished 3w. Deal?:D
