im gonna be looking into getting my parts chromed i have a hairpin setup , ladder bars and a bunch of smal stuff and my pedal assemble to get chromed , does anybody have examples of what they got chromed and what they payed so i have an idea , i just dont want to get ripped off . thanks in advance :)

I always use Advance Plating in Nashville TN. They will be at the NSRA Knoxville event this weekend. They are at the major shows on the east and I just hand Tom the piece and he tells me " How Much " ...
I had 4 bumpers braces recently done for my 32 3W ... and it was six hundred dollars ... but they are NICE ... :D
What Deuce says is true. They seem to have the reputation as being about as good as it gets. I had them do my '27 steering arm years ago, and it was $100.00. I decided for a daily driver I didn't need that quality on everything, so I used Action Chrome Plating in Opa Locka, Fl for the rest. They were much cheaper, but I have to say Advance' chrome looks deeper and of better quality.

thanks guys , im not looking to skimp on cash , my reason for the question is i dont want to be taken i looked at a price list on the site so now i have a better idea what it cost to do . i have a person lined up to do this i just want to be prepaired for the price ..
Just a general comment to go along with the flow. When you get ripped on chrome it's more on the quality side than the price side (though it's tough to separate the two). Out here it's gotten to where you can almost bet you'll have to reject the first delivery attempt for scratches, ripples, pits, or "nickle" spots. The bulk of their business must be from price only shoppers where they get away with delivering poor quality.
I have heard rodders say that Advance was way too high or that it cost a them a ton of $$$ ... But I have NEVER heard a bad word about the quality ... :D :DQuote:

They are shown to be at York June 1-3 as well - I just don't have anything for plating right now. I'll be selling some surplus treasures at the swap meet and may not get too much chance to wander anyhow as I'll be alone - my buddy has a sick wife.
Is Advanced Plating turn time reasonable. I could live with the higher prices if the quality was there and had reasonable turn time. I've heard stories where it was months getting some stuff plated by other platers.

Bumper braces??? Bumpers??? On a deuce??? You don't need no stinking bumpers on a hot rod. :LOL: :LOL:

Outside of that, Advance does excellent work, super quality. Can be a little slow at times depending on volume of business, but overall excellent vendor. Chrome work is a little pricey every place now thanks to the EPA.:mad:

Deuce - what a great looking roadster!!:D :D . Bumpers and fenders have their place and on yours they look great. Sometimes I have thought about adding a front bumper to my car (got one on the rear), but just haven't found the right one yet. One could have saved me from a number of headaches over the years, not to mention money.:eek: :LOL:
FTB, FTF but to each his own.
It was cheaper for me to buy new hairpins from P&J and sell the old ones on eBay than it was to get the old ones chromed. Just a thought.
Just a thought here. I've polished nearly the whole front end on my '27, SB axle , bones, tie rod, backing plares, etc, and save about 50 hours in them. It cut my cost by at least half. It's not any harder than preping an 8" rear end for paint.
Chrome- you get what you pay for.
Careful of the cheap guys. They are famous for giving you back someone elses parts- especially bumpers. They don't think it matters. It matters!
I have my stuff done by a friend in biz. They make elect fans & coolers- starts w/ a D & ends w/ E :rolleyes: They used to do all their own plating in house- now they ship the stuff to Mexico. If I'm not in a hurry- it goes down on one of their loads. About 2-3 week turn & quality is flawless. Prep is all done here.
I just used these guys. They have a location here in FL, that is the one I used. I dropped off my stuff there in person, and they delivered it to one of our local swap meets for me to pick up. I can't speak for the location in MA.
Price: A pair of '32 lower windshield stanchions, door hinges(all 8 pieces), and the top mounts, $350.
Turnaround: I dropped them off on a Thursday, guy says "a couple weeks". 11 AM on Thursday two weeks later - phone rings, "ready".
