Not only was someone willing to bid strongly on this but the seller also wanted even MORE!!!

Yeah, it's got all the good to have body pieces, but it's still a rust bucket (well, probably not to some of you eastern U.S. guys, but by western standards). Well, the market speaks. There was a willing buyer, but not the seller. In the "old days" I would have said this is where two fools met, but I just don't know anymore.

The seller of the 32 on ebay must have sniffed too much glue when he was younger. Anyone in their right mind would have grabbed up that $32,000 and went smiling all the way to the bank. Trying to turn that rust bucket into a hotrod would have been so expensive the rod builder would never have even come close to getting his money out of that vehicle (even with a gun) after it was completed. That would still hold true if the builder did 100% of the roadster build himself. :eek: :CRY:

wow , that guy is dreamin .....32k reserve not met .....wonder what he thought is was worth ...

I would have grabbed that bid in a heartbeat and been super happy getting 32 for it!!!! I guess he needs to find someone who is REALLY into the steel is real philosophy!!!!

Last night on Barrett-Jackson, a stock '32 roadster went for $ 150,000. It was a frame off, and very very correct and nice, and unusual in that it was not a hot rod.

It was actually nice to see one of these unmolested for a change.

i did some work on a 32 delivery body a the guy told me he had over 25,000. in just the body it was not done just steel work and not done and i did some steel work to finsh it up. i did not think much i was thinking he was pulling on my leg???????????

Well, there are "different" people in the world, and as surprising :rolleyes: as it may seem they think differently than we do. It's kinda like that Shelby Mustang I put up a short while ago gettin' hacked into a street racer/hot roddy kind of thing. When you got the bucks you do what you want. There's a lot of guys that say paying what Brookville asks for a body is crazy!:)

Perhaps the seller heard about the original '32 roadster that SoCal recently got done doing all the body work on. Took almost one man year of labor (probably not 100% of the time though) as it was in worse shape than this one. I think their shop rate is somewhere around $90/hr..............do the math. Some people really do prize "originality", however they define it.

I'll bet at that B-J deal the words "I couldn't have one restored for that price" were uttered.

There's a fair geographic distance between Porterville, and Burbank. Wonder if it's the same guy?

It may not be what it seems. You have an auction with an insane reserve and it ends without hitting it. The seller contacts the high bidder and sells it for the highest bid and doesn't have to pay Ebay the %, just the listing fees.
Or not.....

Bidder 5 could be a shill bidder - trying to push his price up.

I spoke with a gentleman, whos name will go unmentioned, who owns and operates a 32-34 frame shop. He told me I was a "non-conformist" by wanting a glass bodied car. I tried to explain to him that if I could afford to start with an original steel body I would, but I'd have 100k in the car before paint and interior. He actually told me I was not doing the industry an favors **) I also heard this particular 32 listed on ebay is owned through Leno. The location is right but I have no idea if the rumor is true. I wish it was 1962 again.
