So Cal Chassis

Me and a "roadster pal" are doing a chassis for the coupe I'm building using all Pete n Jakes pieces and front and back (transverse) cross members. Being as the rest of it is round tubing (ladder bar set up and rear crossmember) I'm looking at keeping the centre pieces the same, and I like the simple look of So Cal's chassis (aside from the step rail part). Has anyone heard of pros and cons of their chassis and if anyone's had any problems because of the simplicity and lack of the usual centre crossmember supports etc? I have a TCI in my roadster and it has quite a bit in the way of reinforcing, but that much more to clean and work exhaust around! I was thinking of going with another straight piece right across for the trans mount because theirs looks a little light weight (but that doesn't nesesarily mean it is!). They seem to be selling a lot of them and they are "apparently" good chassis.......................opinions????;)

Hey Larry, what are you building a coupe for. You have a roadster and it doesn't rain in Victoria. Remember. hahaha Are you turning into one of those old guys that needs a heater and windows? I don't know what I am going to do this summer if I only have the T-tub to drive. I am too much of a wimp after my cushy 47 ford 2-door. I miss the heater already. Hey Pat! A guy can never have too many '32's!!!;) How the hell are you anyway!? Rocknrod, how did you find hanging exhaust and stuff like that? Any things about the chassis you didn't like?

Hey Guy's have you seen HotRods and Horsepowers Frames, they call the " AccuRails", great idea and they really look strong too ! Go to their website and check them out and their complete chassis really is reasonable for what you get. Wonder how come no one has come up with this idea sooner.

Superb frames at So-Cal. The "only" drawback I see, and it may not be since everyones body is slightly different, is you have to weld in your own body to frame mounts on the frame. I did not want to use nutserts cause their somewhat weak. So you have to remove your body once or twice for that. However youd have to anyway afterit's all engineered. So . . . .

I'm using their rails and they're pretty nice for sure, but not really any diferent from American Stamping aside from they conme C'd at the back. I don't know about using their "channel boxing plates tho - seems like overkill to me( think of the weight!). I got their regular plates with the rails and they're a really good fit and will do just fine over the other ones. This chassis is for a 32 coupe but I think the regular rails and plates would be fine for a fat fendered car too.

Now THAT boggles the mind, rocknrod! Why would they not put the body mount in the rails to start with? Sure the body's differ in some ways but the mounting points/holes should be the same. That'd be a major bit of work to put the nuts in after it was built - how would you get them inside the plates!!??? I never even thought about that, but I'd pass on their chassis just for that reason I think - unless there's something I'm not seeing !:confused:

I know this is a really old post, but I had to respond in case someone else stumbles across it like I did.

The So-Cal chassis comes with strategically placed bosses welded to th inside of the frame that you drill and tap for your body mounting bolts. This allows more flexibility in mounting different bodies and keeps everything neat.

You are correct. We use the same method for building chassis in our shop.

When you are working with quality products, there are no holes in the body or the frame. Wescott does not drill the body holes. There is a mark where one should be, When you get the body fit where it goes, are satisfied with the hood fit, wheelwell fit, etc. Then you drill through the body and into the frame, tap the frame, then put the correct size bolt into the correct size hole. No slop. No movement. Everything stays put.

Anyone considering accurail frames might want to hold on to their money. We are a dealer for them and so far in the last 3 months they have shipped a customer (over 3 weeks late) a frame they had the specs on that was completely mfg. wrong, with pieces missing. Later it was found that they had installed the incorrect rear crossmember and the customer had to cut it out and install the correct one...same for the pedal bracket and motor mounts. They can not be contacted and I have only been able to get minimal response from e-mails and phone calls. I have personally refunded $700 to the customer of which NONE has come from Accurails, although they acknowledge it is owed. We have a complete paid for frame that we have been trying to get sent for over 2 months. They claim it is finished and sitting on the floor. I sent them notice that if these items aren't received by tomorrow that Monday the Police will be at their door and the State's Attorney General will be getting a complaint registered. Hold on to your money folks, these folks are not trustworthy. I will keep you informed as to what takes place after tomorrow. I think they may have gone belly up and left town, fortunately I have a friend only 10 minutes away that will be accompanying the police to retrieve our frame.

Woodz....can you keep us informed regarding the situation? It's bad enough that one person gets hung with no parts but, with some communication, we can limit the damage. Just like the fiberglass guys, a company goes out of biz but people dont know and keep sending their $$$.
