Radiator Support Rods $

I'm shopping for radiator support rods. Saw what I think I need in stainless from Wescottts for under $100. Bitchin products has a kit for $210 :eek:

I am not running any hood pieces so they gotta look nice. Can any of ya'll comment on the Wescott's product and/or any other you are using? I ain't paying no $200 for a pair of brakets and rods :rolleyes:

I have also heard (specific to my AFCO radiator) that the rod support bracket at the radiator is prone to fail. I will beef this up. I would just make some extra beefy and shiny side bars to support it but I may run a Procharger if I'm underpowered and it would be in the way on the driver's side :toocool:

Normal price for stainless rods is $25-30 for the pair. If you want the thread covers to "neaten" them up a little more those are another $15-20. The firewall brackets are in the same range.

Make em yourself.
32's take 3/8" stainless rod threaded 3/8-16.
Grind a small flat on both sides of each end - after threading - so the rods fit into the brackets on radiator and firewall.

Model A's can make do with 5/16" stainless rod.
If you have access to a lathe you can turn 3/8" rod down to 5/16" for threading for the A's.

I use regular stainless hex nuts.

You can make something fancy if you have a lathe.

It works well to drill a tall stainless acorn nut all the way through and file or machine a little flat on it.
Drill a pilot hole from the threaded side out the top, reverse the acorn nut and clearance drill for the rod size in use.

Less than $10. most times.

Thanks for the responses. I picked up a set from Speedway with brackets for ~$40.

You have some nice looking ones C9x! I have access to a fully equipped machine shop but I can stomach $40.

BTW, is there a particular rule of thumb for the angle separating the rods, or distance apart at the firewall? Form the photos it appears as though its around 12-14"? I will not be running any hood pieces.
