I bought mine in 1985 from a really nice guy. He had a 40 chevy coupe, running, sold for 400.00. An old Dodge, can't remember the year, and it had a Hemi and ran also, for 450.00. The 34 Truck was what I wanted, and he had already put an Olds 350 motor, 350 trans, and rear end in it from a 69 olds.I sold the motor, trans, and rear for the 500.00. I still had my Merc 410 that I built up from scratch, and a close ratio 4 speed from a 70 Torino, and put that in the 69 Ranchero I had, and then sold the 351W engine for 400.00. I redone a C6 Trans from a station wagon, and beefed up the gears, and clutch packs, 2nd stage shift kit, and a 500 stall converter over stock. The rear end was from my 69 Ranchero. I hunted the junk yard for the parts I needed by the numbers to make it a 4 pinion, posi. Then, ordered new ring and pinion gears, and all new bearings. So, that's why the 34 pickup has all of that. I am even adding an old Gyro like the cop cars used back in the day for high speed chases. Holds you right in the curves.
Some of these new things are pretty cool, but, it's just the prices are way over what the cost of living is, and it strikes me as being really high. Getting old I guess. Oh, talking about storage. I had to hide the truck, and a few other things so when I got devorced, I wouldn't loose it. Hell, she even wanted my tools. Not !!
That reminds me of a friend I had who was a doctor.
He got a great deal on a 1930 Ford but was having some difficulties in his marriage so he bought it and put it in My barn so his wife wouldn't know he had it and worked on it whenever he could get away for a day or two.
He had it looking pretty sweet when the inevitable divorce came and she took about everything but his guns (Also stashed at my house and his 30 Ford)
Being a doctor and not exactly poor even though the divorce cost him he wasted no time getting a girlfriend about half his age and ran into his wife with a girl Young enough to be her daughter and a real pretty 1930 Ford.
She was so pissed he said he thought she was gonna have a stroke.
He had never registered the car until after the divorce or that would have been in his ex wifes garage as well and she was pretty pissed that he was putting around in it less than a month after their divorce became final.
