Hey guys! Yall are probly gonna think this is stupid but I'm new at this stuff and i am only a kid, but i do want to learn about engines so i can do my own work.Anyways, i have a 1962 chevy truck w/ a 350 small block in it and i was wondering if yall could help me out on some parts for making it faster Like what kind of parts that will increase horsepower but aren't that expensive. Thanks alot
Cheapest and easiest are external bolt ons like headers,, free flowing exhaust, then carb & Intake.
I agree with Pro70. Start with headers. Its the easiest and fastest upgrade.
It will free up some of the HP already in the engine. If your engine is tired(aka old and worn), it won't be producing as much HP as it should.
Does it smoke?
Do you hear any chattering when the engine is running?
If yes, you might as well go for taking the engine apart. Get a book on the 350. Learn how to set it up stock then after you learn that you will find things that you may be able to do to get more performance out of it.
Well the engine is brand new. So i don't think that it will be worn and tired. The truck had three on the tree originally but now it is an automatic w/ power steering.

Well,............... cheap til the valves N' pistons fry, or rods snap.:(
That right there is all you would need. If you did just that right there then you will tell a pretty good difference in power. Don't go all out with blowers, radical cams, etc unless you have money to rebuild your engine quite a bit. After you do that you can put in a good mild cam or so. Welcome to the boards by the way, you will learn lots here I am sure because I have. I am around your age (17) and came here when I was 16 or so and have learned tons already. Well my grandma lives up in fort lawn so i go up there quite a bit. but i live like an hour and a half away from ya.
