got 12558062 vortec heads good or bad and are they better than the older 882 heads?

from my understanding 882 heads are good for boat anchors and door stops. I don't know about vortec casting numbers but I've always heard that they flow good and are about as good as it gets for stock heads. One big drawback you have to have a different intake.

From what I've learned, the L31 Vortec heads flow better than any other cast iron head that Chevy has ever produced. It's true that they require a Vortec-specific intake, but if you're changin' heads, you're probably gonna change the intake too, right?
The stock L31's are lift-limited to about 0.430" to 0.450", depending on whom you talk to and must be modified to run a higher lift. Scoggin-Dickey sells these heads already modified, or if you have the stock heads already, you can modify them yourself.
They are 64 cc heads, so some provision will have to be made for dished pistons to run them on a 355 or 383 to keep c.r. at a reasonable level for pump gas.Last edited by techinspector1; 06-10-2005 at 05:01 PM.
