305 ticking?
Have a 69 Firebird with '78 305 chevy in it. Bought the car recently and runs pretty good. Just changed oil and put a qt of Lucas oil with the change. Started the car to check level, no problem. Car sat for a week, went to drive it, and had a ticking noise coming from passenger side top at idle. Less when you give it gas. Next day started the car, and it went away? Should I be worried? Thanx, and please check out my '68 bird below. Kel

I wouldn't worry about it. :)

Beautiful 1st Gen Kel, Welcome to CHR!...Have fun! :3dSMILE:

I wouldnt worry about it, but keep your ears open. Could be valve lash or a lifter. If it starts to get worse, locate where its coming from. If not, ignore it.
-
so is your car a 68 or a 69.does it have a 350 or a 305 in it????????:whacked: :whacked:
-
Sorry, let me clarify. My 69 bird, has the 305.
My 68 has the 350. kel:cool:

Well update......ticking seems to have gone away. Have driven the car a couple of times and runs good, however I noticed that when I stop and the car is in gear, I only have about 10psi of oil pressure. Parts store guy told me to run straight 30w instead of 10w30. Said with the temps down here in South Texas, multi is not needed? Kel

Straight 30w oil gets thinner when it's hot. 10w 30 gets thinner when it's cold. I would try 10w40 in an old engine.
