440, Champion Auto has a video on rebuilding engines. It takes you through each step on tearing it down and putting it back together. Very good, taught me how to rebuild, but you also need a book with the specs as it doesn't have them. so for about $40 yhou can get both. It would be too long to type and too confusing with out the pics or video to show you all the steps.
Good luck

I agree with these other guys, get a book or video. I have a couple of good books, been a while since I looked at them, One is how to Hot Rod a Small Block Chevy, another is Chevy Performance and there is another I think How to Rebuild a Small Block chevy, all have very good information. The small block chevy is the easiest to rebuild, and has so many performance part available it unbievable. The other good point is just about all of the external parts off of these motors will fit on each other, as many of the internals too.
Good luck with your rebuild.
