I got my motor

I picked up the motor for my latest project, 327 from a 1967 Impala, the car had 84 K miles on it when the PO pulled it when he sold the car. The number on the block is 3782870 or 3Y82870. The picture I took this morning is hard to tell. The heads are double hump and the valve covers have a 300 HP sticker on them, how accurate could this be? It is the original motor. Do the heads have any ID'ing marks on them? If you can't tell I'm a SBC novice. Besides measuring the valves how do I tell if the heads are 2.02 or not.

ok- the 67 327 didn't come out with 202's from the factory on the 327-300. You can look on the top of the heads below the valve covers and find the numbers. If they are double humps the numbers should read 3782461, and they are 194's w/ 151's.
You won't need 202's on it unless your going to run a blower, or another means of forced induction, it will not pull anymore than the 194's can handle - so's it would be a waste.

Thanks! I am basically going to do a stock rebuild on this motor. I need to keep the HP rating at or below 325. I'm looking forward to my first SBC rebuild. Is that rating of 300 hp fairly accurate or inflated?

no- your good there.
If your going to do a stock overhaul then you need an overhaul manual. Chiltons has a good one.

Is there anyway I can check this motor for integrity while out of the car. I know for sure that it only has 84k on it and was driven from California to Michigan before it was removed. Would any of you just clean it up and give it a rip, obviously rebuild the Carter. I know it would be a crap shoot, and some would consider it a travesty, but I know it was a good motor when pulled. It has been oiled and turned twice a year since then. I know I should rebuild it, but it is tempting to give it a try without!

man if it was me - with only 84k.... I'd slap on a new timing chain, a water pump, flip it upside down & look inside the oilpan & if it didn't have any metal in the pan, slap a new oil pump on it & go with it.
If it chucks up from there you will need less those parts from there anyway.....Go for it.
