    Chevy small block

Ok, I'm sure these topics have already been covered however I didn't really see them. I'm a first time engine builder, i have what i Believe is a first gen 350 chevy small block, engine ID 10054727 from what i could find this is an 86 LS9? I have it torn completely apart now, I want to keep the crank and pistons it has and just update the rest, and this is where my lack of experience is, looking at pictures of heads, i notice not all ports and passages match my block, seeing there are like 6 different generations and port sizes, shapes, different angles for spark plugs and all sorts of confusion. I'm just looking for this engine to rumble and go fast, I don't have a tranny yet nor do i know exactly what i want to put it in... Thats another days discussion. I'm not looking to max out HP or anything just a good rumble and some good burn outs. Any advice on what to pay attention to and how to find out what parts would fit my engine. Thanks

I don't want my customers doing burn outs on public roads, parking lots, etc, etc

Welcome to CHR 1tmlm0910, It good to see you here. I hate to answer a question with a question but have you checked out our SBC threads? Link below.. A huge collection of questions and answers all related to Small Chevys

    Chevy-Small Block

I'm not a SBC guy and it gets worse with LS motors but a lot of engine info is relative across all motors. So take a bit of time / do some reading while enjoying your favorite adult beverage and I hope you enjoy your time here.

    Welcome to CHR:

Oh it would be nice to have an LS9. If you had an LS9, you could do burnouts all day long and beat the pants off most anything – but what you have is a run-of-the-mill 2-bolt 350 with a 1 piece rear main seal that was used in a gazillion cars and trucks from 1986 onward.

The LS9 is a Generation 4, 6.2L, aluminum small block engine used in Corvettes between 2009 and 2013. It had one casting number – 12621766 and to find one is a good thing! The LS9 is rated at 638 hp @ 6,300 rpm with 604 ft./lbs of torque. It was a Corvette exclusive. LS based Vortec engines were used in other cars – but the legendary LS9 was never shared among the GM family.

    Such is life....
