I have removed the AC from my SB engine the bracket was attached to the head and the water pump. I am replacing the bolt through the water pump but do I need to “plug” the threaded holes in the head?

Whenever I'm working on a machine and remove a bolt from wherever and am faced with that dilemma, I poke a six inch nail into it.
If it bottoms out don't worry about it.
If it doesn't...plug it.
That sound advise, seems to make sense.
Thanks!
Usually the only bolt hole you have to plug on a small block Chevy is the one on the front of the block, right by the fuel pump.
keep in mind the bolt above the fuel pump is for holding the pump drive shaft. the plug bolt is short and replaced with a regular bolt to hold the shaft up when replacing the pump . plug it with a short bolt .
