You're so much better too to swap them in intact, with the entire wiring harness.
If you're determined, then consider replacing the fuel pump to a low pressure pump instead of using a regulator. Or else use a regulator with a return line, they tend to work better..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
