    Help with efi to carb

     



    I recently purchased a 1986 Chevy s10 and want to swap the moter and transmission from my 1997 Chevy Silverado the engine being a 5.7 vortec and a 4l60e transmission but while the engine is out I want to ditch the efi and convert it to a carb I know I'll need the essentials such as a intake a carb a fuel pressure regulator but I havnt seen anyone who knew how to get gauges transmission exc to cooperate I'm no master at this but I think I could get a stand alone computer for the transmission but ikm lost on the rest any help is appriciated.

    You're so much better too to swap them in intact, with the entire wiring harness.

    If you're determined, then consider replacing the fuel pump to a low pressure pump instead of using a regulator. Or else use a regulator with a return line, they tend to work better.

    Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

    The vortech EFI isn't worth swapping IMO. It would take a marine intake to get it any kind of decent and they are not cheap. several places make transmission controllers including Megasquirt.. Gauges on the S10, you can use senders for just about any GM from that vintage or even older.

    RNXZ8448.jpgI did an 87 s 10 with a tbi 350. It was pretty easy to wire with that motor, most of the wires were the same color for the same funtions and the fuel system was pretty much ready to go. My mane issue with the truck was overheating. When it got close to 100 it had troubles, especially with the ac on. I was using a gm clutch fan with a shroud and a corvette radiator, I then had a custom brass radiator made which was better but I still had some issues. I think the mane problem is the engine compartment is so packed that air can't flow through very well. I loved the truck though, it was super fun to drive.
