Comp 3 Keyway Timing Set

Rookie question. I have the comp 3 keyway timing set. Thanks to forum members like Richard, I know what the 'square,' 'circle,' and 'triangle,' slots on the crank sprocket represent. Here's my question: My keyway on the crankshaft is square. What's funny is that all 3 different keyways on the sprocket will easily fit the square crankshaft key. Is that how its intended to be or do I need to install a particular keyway (more circular?) on the crankshaft? I want to set at the rounded keyway for straight up timing but did not know if I can/or will be ok just sliding the rounded sprocket keyway over the square crankshaft key. As you'll notice in the picture, I think I have the 'rounded keyway' on sprocket over the crank keyway. Thanks

Those were my thoughts too and all 3 do fit over the key on crank. Just wanted to double check things. Thank you DennyW

Sure i read the directions. Also read a different version online. Neither really did much in the way of answering what I was interested in on that one question. That or maybe its 'one of those days.'

If your concened about key shear strength for turning the cam/oil pump/dist, The keyway only indexes the gear and the being sandwiched tightly between the front hub and crank main journal is what transfers the torque. If you ever find a sheared key in a timing gear it probably had to do with loose frond dampner hub. They really need to be tight because there is a lot of harmonics from the cam and springs-------
