I wasn't aware that GM put a standard tranny behind a 400 so when I dropped a 400 into a 62 pickup I found a 454 flywheel and never had a problem.
Up until the one piece rear seals, the flywheel bolt pattern was the same on the small and big block cranks and differences were the size of ring gear for starter-and balance whether internal or external balance--------
I can get you the number of the flywheel I used, it's in my garage. I used the bellhousing that was behind the 283 that the 400 replaced and changed the snout on the starter since the starter bolts into the bellhousing.
How about a Canadian 402 big block? Thanks for your time, Eayne.
Needs to be balanced
Another question on the 383. Thinking about complete
ext balanced rotating assembly with 9.8 compression
flat top pistons, 6 inch rods and 3.75 stroke at 64 CC.
The cam would be hyd roller. Would there be much machine
work on this set up?
