    Question Distributor---Stock or HEI

I have a V8 trike with a SBC motor in it.
    It is a 267.

    2 questions.

    1--
The casting numbers on the block says that it was made from 1979--1982---BUT---
Another website says that if the oil dipstick is on the left side.
    it is later than 1986.
How do I tell exactly what I have?

    2--
How do I tell if it a stock distributor or an HEI?

    Thank you.

If the cap is effin large, then it is HEI.

dang, I always thought that if the cap was red it was HEI but if it was black it was points just joking - - - - However, am I missing something by wondering why you don't just lift the cap and look?

If its a stock distributor pre 74, it will have the little lift up access cover to the point gap adjusting allen screw AND a separate coil----------If its a GM post 74 it will have a coil built into the very large cap and no coil to distributor cap wire------altho there are dozens of aftermarket dist for these engines--most likely by now it will be electronic and not points---------------

Google GM HEI Distributor and compare to yours, or visit your local auto parts store and ask to see caps for both and compare to yours. It's not really that tough.

As for your question about the dipstick location, that was answered in your earlier post, telling you to disregard the dipstick as a year indication, right?

267 made '78-'81 IIRC, which would have been run by an HEI distributor in the vehicle it came in, likely a Caprice or Impala.. So it would be stock and be an HEI... That's a lot of motor in a trike for just 110hp
