Hi,
I have a 1950 Mercury with a 350 in her. I have no information on the engine and every time I need to order a part etc... The parts store asks what type of 350 , year, model etc...
Does anyone know how I can find out the origin of the engine? The person I purchased the car from has no contact info any more....

You can get the numbers off the block. That would give you your base info. Nice car by the way thanks for posting picture and WELCOME to CHR

Welcome to CHR, Bud. You scored a very cool old Mercury. There are an abundance of sites on the web that give SBC block numbers, and this one seems to have it right, giving information not only on the engine number but also the partial VIN stamped on the back of the block, drivers side, too - How to decode Chevy Engine Codes Thanks for posting the picture!!
The casting number of the block will be on the driver's side at the rear of the block where it bolts to the bell housing. It usually takes a mechanics mirror and a good strong light to see it if the motor is is the car. The suffix code is stamped into the passenger side of the block deck, in front of the cylinder head and is usually obscured by an alternator or other engine-driven accessory.
