Head gaskets
Hi, im just swapping my heads on a 350 sbc, By mistake I bought the felpro gaskets 1004 which is for a 400 sbc. Can I use them? I live in the UK so I would have to wait to get the new ones sent over here!
The 350 gasket is 4.166
The 400 gasket is 4.190 !!
Thanks in advance!

As long as the ports and bolt holes match, which am pretty sure will. I see no reason for them not to work. Consider the extra thickness a plus, torque the bolts to 25 lb and recheck after first heat cycle.I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

According to the Speedway info you'll be fine using the 400 gasket - Fel-Pro Small Block Chevy 265-400 Head Gasket, Steel Ring, 4.166 Inch Bore - Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed ShopRoger

I think that link refers to using a 1003 gasket on a 400 motor. I have the 1004 (400) gasket and want to fit it to a 350!
So I was wondering if the bigger bore on the gasket would give me issues?Last edited by dave350v8; 08-05-2012 at 07:12 AM.

I thought heads were torqued to 65lbs as well,my main concern is the gasket bore size being 0.024 thou bigger than it should be!

You're fine - 1004 is actually specified for 350 - check out this link:

You'll be fine with the slightly larger diameter gasket.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

biggest dealie about the 400 gaskets is the steam holes(2 small holes between the cylinders) shouldn't use 350 gaskets on a 400---------
And DON"T use LT1 reverse cooling gaskets on a normal sbc of any size

Very sorry for the miss info I somehow thought you were talking exhaust manifold, talk about an off day more coffee please.I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it
well I decided to do another mod to gain max travel of bars past the intended travel points just for that peace of mind. 1/8 inch is to close so now I'll have 1/2" or better. I cut a 3/16" wall...
