Mid-mount serpentine belt system

I put headers on the 327 in my 67 k10 a few months ago so I had to switch to an aftermarket alternator bracket to accomadate my double hump heads. I got the one that bolts into the two first header bolts on the driver side. I wasnt crazy about it right from the begining because the angle wasnt quite right and the second bolt wasnt catching very many threads. Couldnt put a longer bolt in because of the angle of the primary. Soooo, I found this neat looking mid-mount serpentine kit in summit for around 400 bucks. The kit is for use for gm style alternator and a saginaw power steering pump. It comes with all pulleys, hardware, brackets and the two belts. And everything bolts to the water pump. The only concern is that the kit is for a long water pump. Right now im running the short water pump set up. Buying a new long water pump wouldnt be a problem, but will I have to buy a new balancer too? 400 bucks is expensive but i would gladly pay that price to ensure good allignment and reliability of my belts. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks

After figuring,,how much I've spent on my belt system,,and I'm including my time for a lot of home fabrication,,,canner is absolutely right,,,the Summit system woukld be the best route for you too take,,Yea,,it's expensive,,but in terms of ease of installation and how good they work,,,you're better off in the long run.I have a Gilmer belt drive,,and to install this,I had to fabricate different brackets and even modify the ones I bought.Don't get me wrong,,I'm very happy with my belt system,,but I did have to go through a lot to get the belt to run straight and to stay on the pulleys.With the Summit system,,you shouldn't have to deal with all of that.If I can figure it out,,I will post some pics of mine and show you what I'm talking about

Well, as I was telling a friend of mine about my plans to buy the belt drive system, he talked me into buying the very fresh vortec 350 from his 68 shortwide. He bought the motor a few years ago and put it in his truck. He has yet to drive the truck so the motor has 0 miles on it. He started it every now and then but thats about it. He gave me everything I needed to get me on the road. Even the new alternator, water pump, and powersteering pump. He bought it from Plains Chevy here in amarillo along with the gm carbed intake and new hei. All I had to buy was a new flywheel and an electric fuel pump. Did the swap yesterday and fired the motor around 10pm last night. She sounds great:-) I gave him my 327 and 1500$ The motor was around 2200 for the brand new long block without sheet metal so Im very pleased. Now I have a few more cubes, better heads, a roller cam, and no belt issues. He put an old gm style pulley system on it. Only problem is my alternator wires are pulled kind of tight since its on the other side of the truck. Maybe Ill get a cool one wire alternator or even better find a way to convert the one i have. All thats left for today is re-adjusting the clutch rod, putting the fuel pump on a switch and putting my flex fan back on. It gets a little hot with the clutch fan he gave me. I have no fan shroud. Hopefully Ill be cruising her by this afternoon.

Bummer. I was hoping to hear about the Summit kit. I have a SJ 327 I;m putting in my 46' Harvester. I'm running a 69' Camaro Z28 intake with the oil spout in front. I love the look and want to keep the top half of the motor uncluttered. I've been trying to find a factory GM setup that mounts the alt on the passenger side below the valve cover and the PS pump at the same level on the drivers side. No luck. Doesn't matter what forum I post on, I get no real info on what to look for. I was hoping i could score the setup for cheap at a local pick and pull. I might have to pony up and get the Summit kit.
