ok i have a 350 in a 82 c10 has a 600 holley with a small cam and headers has brand new hei distributor new plugs, wires and fuel filter problem is most of the time i crank it up it runs like shit misses and hesitates dont idle all that great but then i can get in it the next day and crank it up and its a all out smooth running beast then get in it the day after and its back to running bad any ideas ?????
the advance is hanging up in the distributer
It's a new distributer and it did this with the old one before I replaced it

Has electric choke and it is functioning properly
Have you checked the fuel filter and the carb to see if they have crud in them? Could be picking up some water or other debris out of the tank. Holley carbs are notoriously fussy about getting passages and orifices plugged in the carb. On the days the truck runs poorly, is you fuel level low in the tank and pickup up water and other crud?
The tank stays at least half full just changed the fuel filter a week ago never checked the carb itself the carb is less than a year old I have a new bigger one I bought for when I rebuild the engine I'm thinking of trying it on just to see what it does
What kind of fuel pump are you running, and do you have a fuel pressure gauge at the carb inlet? Just wondering if you might have a pump getting weak? Have you verified your pressure at the carb?
Holley's are fussy, if they see water or a spec of dirt they can run terrible.... Probably worthwhile to pop the carb apart and blow out all the passages. Rebuild kits with reusable gaskets are about $30.00 if you do some shopping. I've been really happy with carb gaskets and parts from AED, think Summit handles the brand, too.
Not sure on the brand of fuel pump it looks like just a generic pump I had put a gauge inline about 2 weeks ago to check pressure it was at 5 psi I'm thinking of replacing it anyways what's a decent one that won't break the bank ?
So it's a mechanical pump on the engine, not electric? I wouldn't change it if you're getting 5psig, and if I did it would just be the generic OEM style pump from the local parts store. Like Dave suggests, I'd try doing a thorough cleaning of the carb, being sure to blow out all the passages, and then put it back together in a clean area, like on the kitchen table if you can get away with it.Quote:

You changed the fuel filter. Is it an inline filter? Is there another filter at the inlet side of the carb where the fuel line attaches?
I changed the inline filter about to go pull the carb off and try and get it cleaned out
Ok I decided to just try putting the 770 street avenger I had on it and it seem to be running pretty good I can't take it out and drive it cuz its raining and this truck has zero traction on wet roads that's my next thing to tackle is getting the power to the ground lol hopefully tommorow it's not raining and I can take it out and see thanks for y'all help
