Just for S&G's run the dyno sym for 180cc's.Curious....
Oh it will make more H.P might drop some Low speed Torque . Also that Cool 327 L-79 Intake will hold back them better heads . I will see what I can come up with using that 280H that he wants to run but with 180cc heads .
With the (un-ported) Double Hump Heads and 280H Stock L-79 Intake with 600 Carb -359-3 H.P and 386.8 Lbs
With the 180cc Performance Heads - 382.8 H.P and 394.4 Torque .
Tango...I KNOW I won't be changing the heads BUT it could happen that I would run a different intake if you feel the benefits are there. I thought an intake was like most performance items though....a gain can be had but typically with a loss somewhere else in the powerband. You know the saying...toooo much of a good thing! lol
If I'm gonna be a touch down on torque with the cam I chose, won't I be better with the L79 intake? Or is there gains in HP and Torque with an RPM?

Even a regular Edelbrock Performer #2101 will out Power that Factory intake . Sure if you want to keep it more stock Looking then I can see keeping it then Really a small camshaft would be a better combo match . But with the 280H either the Edelbrock RPM or the Weiand Stealth non-Air Gap intake would be the ones to Look at . What #600 carb do you have ?
Another thing to remember is these L-79 Chevy II's with the 3.73 rears used the M21 2.20 1st gear Trans . So you really don't have the off the Line gearing Like you Might think .
We yrs ago did a frame off restro on a 69 numbers match car.The owner still lived in his father's house and his father was a real hard ba$$ insisted he maintained the numbers match part of it.So what he did was to rebuild everything from the H/B to the rear end and then set that aside filling the engine to the top with oil.Then he built the hot rod power train completely separate of that.One engine was a 406 and another one was a 383.He kind of shadowed us during that auction season buy parts to do that at really good pricing.
It is a round about way of saying hot rod this car keeping what you on the side and the logic is there isn't any replacement for displacement for a hot rod version second power train.
I lived threw those yrs of buzzing 327's/302's in drag racing.Honestly back then compered to now we had no clue what we where doing.
Just a intake choice is limited over OEM,still a move in the right direction.But the days of stick a in cam and go,well my two cents is that horse left the barn long ago.There are much better choices now and projects should not have a completion date if alittle cash short right now.

Yes I remember a 1964 Corvette that was a 327-350 H.P car . A Guy I use to work with took a New then G.M 400 short block and put all the rest of the 327 Top End on it Corvette Valve covers and all . Look Like a Factory 327 no Headers Ram Horns . But Yes it was more Torque-y Ha-Ha
Can't say I remember all that could be the same car . But I do remember seeing and hearing it run in the shop it was being worked on .

My Holley is not an original L79. It is a List 1850 vacuum secondary.
My tranny is from an L79 Nova. Unfortunately my 12 Bolt is not. It may be better though as it is a complete Eaton unit ME005.
On another note...My engine builder has ordered my parts and I am not going to get him to change that order agin. lol
However, if you feel I will be better served with an XE268 or a 270 with the parts I am planning on using, I will order one and sell the 280H. What cam would you suggest then XE268, XE274, 270H. No worries about detonation with what I am running??
Take a look at the notes at the bottom of the comp cams spec sheet to see what you have to do to use the cams your interested in.<machine work to heads>
The 270H:
12-211-2 - Magnum
The XE268:
12-242-2 - XTREME Energy
I think the XE268 is you best bet.
XE268 was always my first choice for the power it made acoording to CamQuest. Only problem is Comp told me it would not be safe with my compression on an iron head engine.
