change carburetor?

Hello group -
I have a 350 chev motor in my 32 deuce coupe. It has a Summit 750cfm double pumper carb, with only 1000 on the motor and carb.
When I start it from cold, it cranks over quickly, but have to keep pumping the pedal for a minute, to get the rpm up. After its warmed up, it seems to run fine. Should I be looking for a smaller carb, like a Edelbrock 600cfm, instead of this 750 double pumper?
The carb was on the car when I bought it. Any info would be appreciated.

I have an 870 race carb on my big block chevy no choke and same story.. I think its the nature of a holly( or in your case a holly knock off) could be a choke adjustment im not a carb guy but thats where i would start..

oh and you could take a look at the way its timed too

Sounds to me like a choke plate adjustment may be needed. See if you can find the rebuild instructions for that carb on-line, and look at the setup instructions.

Some cars are just cold natured, and it is hard to know why sometimes. My Son Don is running pretty much the same setup in his 23 that I am in my 27 (sbf, 2 x 4 Edelbrock 600's) and yet his is a little slower to warm up and take gas than mine. I think he even has his choke wired in and mine are both wired wide open. Very confusing.

In my professional opinion its a choke issue.... second problem can be an over kill carb for a SBC. Unless the motor has been bored out to the max and its loaded with racing parts to have a motor that puts out 600+hp and made to run over 5000rpm..... the 750 is an overkill ...it will baxically flood its self out on cold starts and give you crappy gas mileage...... the most you need for street power is no more than a 600cfm.

Its all in the idle and transfer circuits----even an 1150 can be made to start and idle

Thanks for the replies. I found the Edelbrock 1406 performer series carb in the Summit catalog for $299. I'm going to swap out the carbs and see how that goes. Yes, the engine floods out easy, and is hard to start 10 minutes after shutting it off. Thanks all - for the advice !

I have a friend that bought a summit knock off, The carb did things carbs can't do. We tore it down and there was aluminum shavings everywhere. Cleaned it up and it started behaving like a real carb>
