Would anyone know?

Do you know what are the stock metering rodes for a 600 cfm 1406 edelbrock carb. because when i hit the gas, black soot comes out the pipes. the metering rode i got in it right now are 16-691 .076x.055 so where can i go from here i got the metering rode and jet kit, i have looked at the jets and they are stock so i know i don't need to change them. i got this carb used and they said that they have changed the rodes but they didn't remember what came out of them.
the carb is on a 327 bored .060 over, with a 3 stage over rv cam
high rise edelbrock intake and a nether 4in lift on the carb. if you need any more info let me know.

Meteriing rods for the 1406 are .075x.047

ok thanx chevy, i don't have the rodes. so if i use .068x.0555 it looks like they are really big on the tip so i know that will not push very much fuel through right?

Just to aid in the understanding of fuel through the carburetor.
Fuel is not pushed through- engine vacuum pulls the fuel past the ports and volume is gauged by the metering rods.

ok thanx guys for all your help. i got a fuel pressure gage. i got 5 lbs of fuel pressure going to the carb.

CD-, When you say "anyway" - I detect a note of unfullfilled answers to your query. I hope that the direction Tech.1 sent you to www.edelbrock aids in your final calibration. This gentleman has been a great source of info to me. I may be wrong, however if you are still not warm and fuzzy with the outcome, ask questions and there are more than enough helpful members to give you assistance. As previously stated- Good Luck.
