327 help
Greetings,
I have a 327 2680 steel crank, 2 bolt main with the original 896 heads I believe, I do not have the casting numbers at the moment for the block, the engine ran fine according to the owner of the hotrod I go it from, however I have a few concerns with the block
well, one real concern.. it has been bored .60 over, I have heard mixed opinions about the max overbore of a 327 block, I am a bit worried the cylinder walls will be too thin to hold up to the strain, the engine is going in a 3100lbs stock car on a 1/4 banked oval, this engine also appears to have been balanced internally or lightened perhaps?, rod caps have machining on them, crank throws have holes cut in them that do not appear factory, has a factory balancer on the crank still
never dealt with a 327 before, not sure what to expect from this engine in this application, my other question would be in regards to getting the most out of this engine, cam/carb/heads/gears etc.
cam I have currently is a 462/469 lift, 262/270 advertised and 218/224 @.50 rpm range from 1300-5600, maybe a little too low for this engine? heads do not appear to be touched, I could have them reworked a bit to better balance it out. we have to run factory intakes, I have an aluminum Qjet intake with a 650cfm Qjet or a 500cfm 4412 with a 1.5" spacer
Corvette "ram style" manifolds as we cannot run headers
2spd powerglide behind it at the moment, though I do have a 4spd Muncie as well, 2.73 gears with a limited-slip, this engine is what I have at the moment so I intend to TRY and make it work for me, for now at least
I apologize if this is the wrong place for these questions due to all the chassis talk, but I figured it was important to know what the engine was being used for
