small journal crank in large journal block - Chevy Forums at Chevy High Performance Magazine
Thanks i will
I am curious. What are you going to use this engine for??.
Hi i want to use 327 small crank in medium block as i have complete small rotating ass and medium block thanks Dallas
Dallas-I was asking because I wanted to find out if you are using the engine for a street car.As the ref article stated-that isn't a appropriate. In the bottom end it won't create the kind of output for a street application. To constant buzz that up will end up on the street with limited life expectancy of all the parts. In general the costs for a build for that with any reliability is very high.Just my two cents worth and surely do whatever you want.God knows I don't follow the norm to save money on my build where I could.
Look at it this way: Maybe the reason you don't see much of this sort of thing is that it has already been done, tested, and found lacking in some important way. With the abundance of parts available in almost all areas, and in fairly decent to good, or new condition, following engineered, tested, and proven practices might be the better solution. I'm not saying you shouldn't do this, just that there are easier and better ways; you may, of course, do what you wish.
the 327 small journal crank is steel and not cast like the mediun journal thanks
Dallas-by the time you get the spacers situated a aftermarket steel crank would be cheaper.
I'll try to find the numbers--think they were only available in std and -.010
this works good and one off the best short track engines I built was done this way---most of the high horse power engines today use these small mains and even the honda small rod size
Thanks i would like that and thanks for going to the time to check it out as i am in Australia Dallas
I know we have got 400/350 from Bo Laws down in alabama---
I'm looking for some early bearing catalogues for the numbers
Jeg's has in stock Cleavite MS-1110 h part # 696-ms1110h spacer bearings to put 2.300 crank in 2.640 main bore blocks---little expensive at $203.99 but they have at least 10 sets in stock
Thanks i will check jegs but i need 2.45 mains
the main bearing bore in the block is 2.6406-2.6415 and
, crank journal size 2.4484-2.4493 for the 350 sbc
283 /early 327 sizes are main bearing housing bore size is 2.4906-2.4916 and crank main journal is 2.2983-2.2993
These spacer bearings I listed are for putting the 2.300 cranks in the 2.450 blocks---you just have been looking for something with the wrong group of numbers
