350 not starting
i just put in a rebuilt 350 in a truck that i am redoing and primed the engine and got everything timed and adjusted right, but when trying to start engine it starts to crank faster like it wants to start but then dies out and then shots flame out of carb. in my past history with this it was timing but i have triple checked the timing and its dead on and i checked spark its getting good spark. could something in the valve train be bad. thanks

Did you adjust the valves? If everything is new, the valves should be 1/2 - 3/4 turn from zero lash (I'm assuming you have hydraulic lifters). If you have them too tight you'll get a fast crank and fire out the carb.

i havent checked the valves yet but the motor was rebuilt and ran 6 times and the guy recked the car and i bought the motor from the guy. also it wont flash out the carb unless i push the gas pedal to the ground. and yes it does have the hydrulic lifters.

If it was a runing engine why prime it?? did you put the dist. in 180 out??

no its on time and it sat for a year or so in a garage with no oil or antifreeze in it so i wanted to get the oil threw the motor just to be safe.

no i had another guy come up and check as well and its on time and i primed the motor because it sat for a year or so with no oil or antifreeze so i primed it just to be safe.

ARE all the valves moving up and down when ya crank it ? good to check after sitting for a while could be stuck . i seen one stick a top ring sitting too long when he dry started it it pulled the top off a piston . rut row.....
