Unique or "Differant" Air Cleaner
I'm getting to the "little things" on this build. I looked at my plain old school looking round chrome air cleaner and thought "It just anit cutting it".
So now I'm looking for something Unique for an air cleaner.
I know y'all have a few ideas.
AND please dont say a word about using an old mailbox. I anit that redneck.

i have always wanted to use a cymbal for the top for the top of the air cleaner. There are lots of things you could do to it. thats my two cents.

single quad? dual quad? I like the setup you showed. gives a very clean look. whatever you choose just think outside the box. don't limit yourself to what others have done already.

Love that!!!
yeah i agree. im at the stage where im looking at as many ideas as i can-like the pic i showed- and then think "what could i change on that". Im a sheetmatal fabricator by trade so am lucky that i can make alot of things myself-as well as being handy with fiberglass.
like lotsatoys said if you could let us know the carb set up it would make it easier to give suggestions.Last edited by spikeo; 11-21-2010 at 03:30 AM.

I love imaginative thinking! Maybe I'm just bored with the cars I have seen over the last 50 years. Many of the things that are done are either because...
...builders have been conditioned to only think within certain limits...
...they are trying to build in what is considered a classic or nostalgic look...
...or they are afraid that someone else might not approve, or even offer criticism.
You could create your own design, as you have suggested, maybe inspired by the popular Olds air cleaner of the fifties or a famous rare piece of speed equipment... or look at other things going on during the era your car represents, like that newspaper box that was used as a scoop on many race cars... or even be humorous, and use something like a sombrero, a mailbox, a tool box, or a hubcap. Maybe you could even think of something with a personal meaning to you.

Once someone else has done it, doing it again isn't "unique".....
Inspired by the '67 Buick GS housing maybe you should go to a costume house and see if you can get one of these helmets.................

Or just google it and see what's out there! I think the bed pan one might start to smell when the engine heats up! I remember a discussion on here related to engine size and air filter size. I really like the Hilborn style, but they have tiny air filters. So it's not just style, but function too! Now a old mailbox has a lot of volume!

I always ran the caddy/olds air cleaners modified to use a paper element, until they started repopping them!!
I'm looking at using a 67 nova dual snorkel air cleaner on my next streetrod project-'ol school, and it directs the air in from each hood side louver!!

What kind of car did ya build; roadster, shoebox, truck. Did you build with a theme; old school, hotrod, ratrod, muscle car?How many lumps ya want with that?
